Electroacoustic - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
empreintes DIGITALes - Recordings of musique concrète, acousmatic music, electroacoustic music.
Electroacoustic music is typically less preoccupied with the 'traditional' concerns of score-based music- rhythm and melody- and more concerned with the interplay of gesture and texture, and what Denis Smalley has termed 'spectromorphology'- the sculpting of the sound spectrum in time.
The terms Electroacoustic or Electroacoustic music have been used to describe several different musical genres or techiniques.

 [No title]
In the beginning of electroacoustic music, musique concrete and electronic music developed a style of their own with a separate esthetic while there was no acceptance of this within the established contemporary instrumental music scene.
I believe strongly that there are several musically significant differences between electroacoustic music and instrumental music, and between contemporary (late 20th century), and historical music.
It is both a blessing and a curse that the new instruments of electroacoustic music (and modern recording studio technology), have allowed many composers who are not schooled in the classic/romantic Western music tradition to create "serious" musical works.

 Enculturation: Ian Whalley
Traditionally, electroacoustic music has been distributed through concert music settings or CD, reinforcing the art music [33] proposition that music is something set apart that needs to be sat and listened to independent of other events.
Electroacoustic is used throughout to note the possibility of combining live music with electronic music.
Digital music is understood to not have a real performer playing at a rendition of the music, and is now a more common aspect of electroacoustic music.

 Splendid E-zine: Departments: Avant What?
Electroacoustic music is not music in the traditional sense and it never was intended to be.
Of all demanding music (you remember, that's the topic of this monthly column?), electroacoustic music is often considered to be the most difficult type, and also the most misunderstood.
Depending on the piece, the best way to listen to electroacoustic music is with headphones (some are better with loudspeakers), lights down and even eyes closed, with minimum disturbance and interruption.

Music audiences are also indebted to Anhalt for the first electroacoustic music concert in Canada, which took place at McGill, where he presented his own compositions as well as those of LeCaine and Karlheinz Stockhausen.
Also, since a large part of the electroacoustics program is dedicated to recording techniques, many of our students are technicians rather than composers; but they require a good knowledge of music nonetheless.
he diverse areas of the large family of electroacoustic music are presently very popular among aspiring composers and technicians.

The absence of gay themes and homoeroticism in electroacoustic music is discussed within the context of issues of gender and music that have been raised in the last decade.

 The Electroacoustic Situation in Canada
Electroacoustics is a musical discipline that is quite distinct from instrumental music and electroacoustic concerts obey other laws and a different logic.
First, there is the music that is historically continuous with instrumental music in the sense that a musical element is connected with the idea of its performance as mixed music, live music, improvisation and so on.
In our view, the reason the electroacoustic concert situation is so difficult is because the purse strings are held by decision-makers from the instrumental music camp who think that electroacoustic is, at best, a marginal form of music, and, at worst, mere musical tinkering.

 Electroacoustic Definitions
This is considered by some to be a bit oxymoronic, since one of the great accomplishments of electroacoustic music has been the liberation of musical art from the stage, church and concert hall into private listening space.
There is a potential that music referred to as electroacoustic somehow melds both electronic and acoustic sound materials.
Arguably, electroacoustic music demands new kinds of listening approaches and forces us to give up aural prejudices.

Ideas for a Musicology of Electroacoustic Music
A systematic musicology of electroacoustic music cannot embrace the ‘note’ as the unit of musical discourse: this theme has been extensively developed by Schaeffer (1966) and echoes in the dilemmas of musical analysis vis-à-vis atonal music and of ethnomusicology vis-à-vis transcription and description of the musics of aural tradition.
Finally, a musicology of electroacoustic music cannot be uncritical of the historical/systematic/ethno tripartition.
Concerned with the impact of electroacoustic music upon the listening, with aural culture, with our relation to the soundscape and with the huge acceptance of techno as opposed to the marginal acceptance of other electroacoustic genres (including experimental pop), it could nevertheless connect a somewhat ring-fenced electroacoustic community [5] to other communities in general.

Both acoustic and electroacoustic spectroscopy are related to a sound propagation through a heterogeneous system such as a suspension or an emulsion.
A new approach is suggested here which combines acoustic and electroacoustic spectroscopy and eliminates the disadvantages of both.
An acoustic spectrometer measures only the changes in the properties of the sound wave, whereas an electroacoustic spectrometer deals with coupling between electrodynamic phenomena and the sound wave pressure field.
