 Godsmack Serenity Ver2 Guitar Tab
This song is played in Drop D (low e string is downtuned to D) This part is played through most of the song.

 [No title]
Downtuned bass is there driving the song and providing the backbone but never really takes a huge presence in the music, except for the hidden track in which it provides a groove heavy hip hop style bassline.
Drums have a somewhat dampened and downtuned sound and are very closely integrated with the dynamics of the guitar and vocals making for a crushing wall of sonic fury that vigorously entrances the listener.
One thing that vividly sticks out is that the band isn't afraid to experiment, there's tribal percussion elements at play, turntables make guest appearances on a few tracks, all while the songs proceed forward constantly moving and displaying a rather wide avenue of variety.

Gothic metal - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The deep vocal baritones of Rozz Williams and Valor Kand, the downtuned bass guitars and eerie synths made a strong impression on many bands that would form later, including those who experimented with other metal influences.
In the 1990s, a group of young bands in Northern England borrowed from the early gothic metal sound of the 1980s and incorporated it with the slow, downtuned guitar dirges of Black Sabbath.
Celtic Frost - although considered by many as an early black metal band - also played an early role for their "gothic-sounding" atmospherics.

 Death Metal- DEFINED
Vocals here are the same as normal Death metal and guitars are often just as distorted and downtuned, but the music has more of a discernable melody.
The music is often difficult for an uninitiated listener to appreciate because of the extreme distortion and wall of sound.
Guitars are downtuned to a rumbling wave of sound.

 Max Soren
Max Soren’s music is rooted in the loud, heavy, downtuned, slow dredge of bands like The Melvins and Black Sabbath, but obscured through blown speakers and miles of unraveled cassette tape.
The discerning ear can trace his sounds back to the above groups, but the result can more easily be compared to early Swans, Low, and of course even some of Silber’s own.

 How it Ends- Reviews
Only eccentuating the downtuned, gritty heaviness is a rich, but not overproduced recording quality, and some really grim lyrics.
How It Ends' musical formula is nothing out of the ordinary; the guitars are chunky, heavily distorted, and sound like they're downtuned to drop Q, the drum parts are mid-paced, driving, and packed with pummeling double bass kicks, and the thunderous bass parts create a solid backbone.
The vocals, too, don't offer anything incredibly original, but are solid and fitting, nonetheless.

Nu metal = downtuned guitars and chromatic scale riffs and rap vocals, with DJ's often to be found in the band.
It's not about the phylosophy, it's about the sound and the musical characteristics.

Dark Poetry - Satan Stole My Teddybear
The drums and vocals are very dry and a bit muffled, but the downtuned guitars are on a par with Machine Head and far better than the best Sepultura (and a great many black metal albums currently released by real labels).
The singer sings a little, threatens a bit, and grumble-grunt-scream-screeches a lot, which makes me wish the band had spent more time on the vocals (melodies and technique) to bring them to the level of the instrumentalists.
The songs go from high-speed black metal riffing to open-string ambient noise a la Tool to downtuned Pantera bludgeoning and back within one song.

JAMES IHA DOT ORG :: Gear
The black one was heavily downtuned (to C) and used for monstrous songs such as "The Everlasting Gaze," "Heavy Metal Machine," "Once In a Lifetime," etc. The yellow one (with a white pickguard) was used for Eb-songs.
The second one is full black and was used for heavy downtuned (Eb) songs, mainly for "Geek USA".
The black one was used for downtuned (Eb) songs ("BWBW", "Zero", "Fuck You", "Here Is No Why" and tons of others) and "Tonight, Tonight" and "1979" was played with a silver sunburst Les Paul.

We just want to be brutally heavy, but also let our influences show.“ Those heavy, downtuned influences are apparent on “Prelude“, serving as an introduction to the band via riff after crunchy riff on the four-song outing.

You know there are bands in America for example that use a lot of downtuned guitars and have a darker sound.
I would say this new album is a combination of Keeper era Helloween and a combination of new sounds such as downtuned guitars.
Now we use these types of sounds in our new album but we dont use the music.

No Life 'til Metal - CD Gallery - gorefest
Since the vocals are not understandable, and no lyrics were included in this promotional cd, I have no clue what the lyrics are about, although I have a feeling from the band name and song titles, that they are typical of this scene.
Got this as part of the double disc with Mortification's "Scrolls of the Megilloth." Like Scrolls, "False" is heavy downtuned death metal with low gutteral vocals.
On top of heavily downtuned guitars, there are some nice classic metal soloing.

Intestinal Fauna (aka Dimrill's Page) - Music Reviews
The guitars are so downtuned as to be almost sludge, which carries this style well.
It's the vocals that annoy me most on this album, as they're almost whined instead of sung and that doesn't carry the lyrics very well.
CD Downtuned sludge metal with Alice In Chainsesque grunge vocals.

 INFERNAL COMBUSTION.COM
Even the fast songs seem caked in an oil-thick production, and guitars are almost ludicrously downtuned, Billy Graziadei and Evan Seinfeld's vocals sounding like they were recorded on a cassette deck with low batteries.
It's a welcome change from the desperate parade of guest stars and the goofy, comic vibe of some of the shit on Uncivilization (I'm still surprised none of that album's songs ended up as WWE entrance themes) - but there seems to be a bit of an identity crisis going on here.
Knocked out a mere year after the release of 2001's Uncivilization (one of that year's many records buried by its September 11 release date), New York's long-in-the-tooth hardcore vets bound back with this short, bleak, downtuned, downright feral slab of sludge.

Absolut Metal - album review - God Among Insects - World Wide Death
Their "World Wide Death" disc, (which is currently pummeling my ears) is chock full of disgustingly downtuned warp speed riffs, skull crushing breakdowns, and plenty of bowel moving growls.

 Vampire Magazine - Putrefied
Opening song ‘Skull tortured’ is my favorite, and the other songs follow in descending order, as I’m of the opinion that the lack of variation and the the slightly muffled production result in the fact that it’s not easy to stay focused for the full album.
Yet, this may seem as if I actually had a hard time listening, but the opposite is ofcourse the case, for I had and have a good time listening this stuff, but it just has some minor flaws.
On stage Putrefied is good for half an hour unrelenting ‘sick, downtuned us-style’, and on disc..on disc Putrefied does exactly the same.

 Geekburger.com > Album Review
Aside from the mediocre lyrics, "Hell Or High Water" is a decent listen, leaving the listener feeling better than they did beforehand.
Philadelphia's Sugar Daddie has a sound unlike most other bands; a gritty combination of gruff vocals, simple, distorted and downtuned guitar parts, and a percussive section that provides the crunch.
I don't see myself listening to this record often, but it might have its sliver of play in the future.

Beyond All Reason + New Legends + Blind Jackson @ Fibbers on Fri 4 Feb 2005
And how about this for praise liberally ladled out by Funeral For A Friend in a recent Metal Hammer, "Another band who can be brutally heavy in parts yet beautifully melodic.

the slacker's guide to san francisco
Similarly, the way the band used heavy, downtuned chords and dubbed-out clouds of harmonically-enhanced feedback gave their music a melancholic edge that worked against the anger of the rest of their songs.
It was a remarkable song by an otherwise unremarkable band that coupled a strong affinity for indie pop with a heavy low end and downtuned metal guitars.
I must have listened to that song hundreds of times over a couple months, and I was frustrated by the complete inadequacy of the rest of Nemo's songs.

The Metal God's Quorum - The Ripper Owns Appreciation Thread....
Tipton has said on many occassions that they downtuned simply because the newer stuff was downtuned, so it was easier to just leave the guitars downtuned for everything live.
Sure, there were some songs he was shaky on (I never liked him singing "Touch Of Evil").
I think he would've nailed alot of those questionable older Priest songs if they had been up where they should'be been.

Layer after layer of downtuned riffing, insane blast beats and hellishly surreal super processed howling vocals (sounding almost like all five of them are singing simultaneously).
Could it be the downtuned electric guitar, that sound that marks all things dark and heavy and brutal and grim?
And Twilight certainly is both grim and sick, but the sound manages to be much more, veering dramatically from the various contributors' usual sound and sounds.

 Death metal biography .ms
Most bands of this genre use downtuned guitars (usually utilising two), which play both rhythm and lead guitar parts, a downtuned bass guitar, a double bass drum set, and a vocalist who uses the death grunt vocal style.
Death metal is clearly an outgrowth of heavy metal, but the full story is complex and interesting, and is the subject of some debate among fans and musicians.
Death Metal is known for very abrupt tempo and count/time signature changes, and extremely fast and complex double bass drumwork.

I really like them alot and wanted to know what others thought, they have a realy good singer, and I like the lyrics they write as well, the basslines in some of their songs are pretty sweet, and they use the guitars effectively.

CoC : Cast Iron Hike - Watch it Burn : Review
Listening to Watch it Burn, it's easy to see why the Boston-based band have caused such a stir along the East Coast with their metallic, downtuned sound and singer Jacob Brennan's powerful vocal performance.
Quite thankfully, Cast Iron Hike have chosen the latter path for their debut on Victory Records.
All these elements are captured quite nicely on tracks such as "Boxed," "Workhorse" and "Swimming Through Sand" (picture Quicksand meets Only Living Witness).

Aquarius Records: Search Results for Keyword: Burmmenlp
From their first release, a chaotic, club destoying blast of downtuned pummel, Burmese have slowly been gravitating, at least sonically, toward what can only be described as a state of Whitehouse.
Shrieked black metal vocals over pounding super distorted downtuned riffs and crushing double drummer pummel.
Shedding musical elements one at a time until they were on the verge of becoming pure violent energy.

 Are You God
Also fitting in with these elements, there is a lot of groove in their songs, which gets annoying some times, but does help define their sound.
The vocals on here are very similar to Bart Bouwman's (LDoH) and fit the dirty, basic sound of the music very well.
The guitars are, like Gut, downtuned and flow smoothly with the bass and vox, also being low.

 Missing Link Records: Coliseum
Taking a different, if not altogether dissimilar, route from Black Cross' DC hardcore meets noise rock approach, Coliseum draws its primary influence from early 80's British punk rock a la Discharge, GBH, and Motorhead, as well as hints of 90's punk and hardcore bands like His Hero Is Gone, Turbonegro, and Avskum.
To mark their 80th release, Level-Plane delivers this 36 track 2xCD set featuring tracks spanning their entire catalogue, including newer signings Malady, Coliseum, The Holy Shroud, Bucket Full of Teeth and Newgenics, plus old favourites City Of Caterpillar, Neil Perry, Hot Cross, Shikari, Transistor Transistor and tonnes more.
Coliseum's downtuned guitars, oppressively heavy bass and blistering d-beat drumming creates the bleak landscape from which Ryan's desperate worldview is throatily belted.

The only thing I have to gripe about this album is the production; all of the instruments seem in the background, and the vocals aren't any better.

Though Unison suffers from some downtuned instruments, it is what I use for most my MIDI files because of the great choir, distorted, and overdriven guitars.
I haven't found any non-commercial soundfont that suits all music perfectly, but these do a good job without becoming too large.
To easily compare the quality of these soundfonts to the small default quicktime font, I exported a MIDI to mp3 using the sound canvas and unison soundfonts:
