Among his other works are eleven symphonies (the last in 1993), concertos including two for violin, eleven string quartets, other chamber music, piano pieces and vocal music.
David Leo Diamond (July 9, 1915 – June 13, 2005) was an American composer of classical music.
He also composed the musical theme heard on the CBS Radio Network broadcast "Hear It Now" (1950-51) and its TV successor, "See It Now" (1951-58).

Diamond's homecoming in 1965 marked the occasion of his 50th birthday, and his old friend Bernstein mounted a memorable concert on April 28 1966, when the New York Philharmonic (of which Bernstein was now music director) premiered his Symphony No 5 (1951-64) and Piano Concerto (1949-50, which Diamond conducted).
Diamond did manage to secure vital commissions, however: his friend Charles Munch, now conductor of the Boston Symphony Orchestra, premiered his Symphony No 6 in 1957, and he found a new supporter in Eugene Ormandy, who conducted the Philadelphia Orchestra in his Symphony No 7 in 1962.
Fascinated by the violin from a very early age, he devised his own method of composing for the instrument before he could read music.

David Diamond, a prolific composer known for his lyrical sensibilities and feisty temperament, died of congestive heart failure on June 13 in his native Rochester, N.Y. He was 89.
One of them, Seattle Symphony music director Gerard Schwarz, a Juilliard alumnus who studied with Diamond, said of his teacher's music: "At times it was as elegant and expressive as music can be, and at times extremely driven." (A review of Diamond's works on CD is here.)
But shifting trends in American music in the 1950s and '60s caused Diamond to be branded old-fashioned, and his compositions began to lose favor.
