Bowie had requested the band to perform at the show, and together they performed the Arcade Fire's song "Wake Up" from their album Funeral.
Bowie released his first solo album in 1967 for Deram records, simply called David Bowie, an amalgam of Psychedelic Rock and Easy Listening.
David Bowie (born David Robert Jones on January 8, 1947) is a British rock singer, musician and actor.

David Bowie (album) - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
David Bowie is the eponymously-titled debut album by rock musician David Bowie, released in 1967 by Deram Records, a Decca label.
NME critics Roy Carr and Charles Shaar Murray have said "a listener strictly accustomed to David Bowie in his assorted '70s guises would probably find this debut album either shocking or else simply quaint".
The track also included explicit references to abortion, infanticide and cannibalism.

 VH1.com : David Bowie : Biography
Bowie followed the album in late 1971 with the pop/rock Hunky Dory, an album that featured Ronson and keyboardist Rick Wakeman.
Bowie needed to finance the Arts Lab, so he signed with Mercury Records that year and released Man of Words, Man of Music, a trippy singer/songwriter album featuring "Space Oddity." The song was released as a single and became a major hit in the U.K., convincing Bowie to concentrate on music.
Bowie had recruited Chic guitarist Nile Rodgers to produce the album, giving the record a sleek, funky foundation, and hired the unknown Stevie Ray Vaughan as lead guitarist.

David Bowie: Hunky Dory ---Ink Blot Magazine
David Bowie began performing music at the age of 13, when he learned saxophone, which he played in a number of unremarkable bands until 1966, when he began to release solo singles on Pye Records.
The album included the song "Space Oddity," which became a big hit in Britain and the title of the same record when it was released to signifigantly less success in America.
Hunky Dory is Bowie's most varied recording to date, wandering fluidly on a musical terrain that shifts unexpectedly between melodramatic show tunes, flawlessly constructed pop, trippy art-rock, and earthy folk.

RCA was the next label to sign Bowie, and after a trip to America to complete the legalities, he returned to London to record two albums nearly back to back.
The summer of 1972 was also a busy one for Bowie in the studio, as he produced albums for Lou Reed (Transformer) and Mott the Hoople (All The Young Dudes, for which he wrote the hit title track).
David Robert Jones was born in Brixton on January 8th, 1947.

 David Bowie
Bowie wasn't at the peak of his song writing skills, and some of the songs can be irritating.
It was Bowie (and his guitarist, Mick Ronson), in fact, who invented the "loud generic style distorted rock and roll guitars" glam style heard on a couple of the songs of this album.
David's still singing too high and missing notes aplenty, but he does come up with a few killer songs (distorted rocker track 2, oddball bass walker track 9 and especially the somber, "Space Oddity"-style title track, made famous to a younger generation when Kurt Cobain And His Nirvanas put it on their Unplugged album).

Bowie recorded 'Low' with Brian Eno; together with Iggy Pop, they "fabricated" the album 'The Idiot', Bowie became "Heroes" (also the song title in between inverted commas), Pop ironically caught sight of the 'Lust for Life' but both remained 'Passengers', headed by Bowie as 'Lodger'.

 David Bowie: Heathen: Pitchfork Review
Bowie tries his hand at the Pixies' "Cactus" (a move which might make the album's title sound ironically appropriate)-- but take a deep breath.
This is not a particularly cheery record: "Sunday" is a somber, almost sinister chant that builds into an ascending chorus of warm synths and percussion-- a tense, minimal remix of the best moments of Earthling, if you will.
He's a far cry from Black Francis, but Bowie's voice is so amazingly distinctive that it almost sounds like a different song.

The song that David performs vocals on is entitled 'Province' which will appear on their next album 'Return To Cookie Mountain' scheduled for release on 12th June.

Immediately following the Bowie article, which was written by the dubious Jay Cocks, the magazine's editors have placed an article on music entitled "New Rock on a Red-Hot Roll: Sizzling sales have record execs dancin' in the suites."
