Darkthrone - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Darkthrone moved to the Moonfog (of Satyr of Satyricon) label for subsequent releases.
Peaceville Records was originally skeptical about releasing the album due to Darkthrone's diversion from the death metal style.
Darkthrone subsequently recorded and released the seminal black metal album A Blaze in the Northern Sky, which was strongly inspired by the works of Bathory and Celtic Frost.

Darkthrone will always hail the 80's sound, the real metal decade, and the band will continue to pour out their music for as long as the health of the band is ok. All the energy is directed towards the albums, since there will (as usual) be no live performances.
The Darkthrone EP (not single...ok?) is out now on vinyl and cd.
The music on the albums (vinyls rules) is the main focus.

Darkthrone - Under a Funeral Moon Review - sputnikmusic
Darkthrone are often branded untalented (which is false, listen to their first album) by haters for playing simplistic music, but they are merely choosing not to bombard us with solos and the like.
Darkthrone provided a shock for their fans back in 1991 with the release of A Blaze in the Northern Sky, it was raw, badly produced and simplistic; unlike their previous release, Soulside Journey which was more technical death metal.
The guitars excel on this track, epespecially one riff which is the best, and most memorable, on the album and probable Darkthrone's entire career.

Fenriz - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Darkthrone was created as a death metal band by the name of Black Death in 1986.
However, he is a prolific musician who has been involved in a wide array of bands, solo efforts, and side projects spanning a variety of musical genres.
Fenriz has expressed that he had a passive interest in Bathory by 1986, but claims that he did not understand the "darkness" of black metal until hearing a song by the Hungarian band Tormentor in 1989 (he gives similar credit to Mercyful Fate).

But since Darkthrone hasn´t made a videoclip in their career, and concerts simply don´t exist, that urge is close to utopia, unless you release some footage of you in the making of an album, recording in the studio.
Darkthrone have always rejected to play cover songs, whereas some time ago a tribute was released where well-known bands of the scene payed homage to you.
Nowadays it´s really lucky to find a classic black metal band that is alive and killing like Darkthrone is, with a certain aura around, with many things to say in an interview, and releasing good albums that haven´t lost the essence of what the band stands for: evil, ancient, cold, dark black metal.

 Darkthrone - Unholy Black Metal
The guitars play the beginnings of the somnolent dark melodic lines of later albums with the vocal and rhythmic pacing of the more chant-based tracks off "Under a Funeral Moon." Surprising most is the presence of slower, doomy elements and the structural position of rhythm in these bizarre songs.
Trademark Darkthrone vocals, slower and with less dominating echo perhaps, rest on top of these gentle yet savage tracks of metal experimentation, with female vocals and random guest noises on some songs.
Esberg, Denmark, captures the young Darkthrone playing the germ material of their first album in an instrumentally dominated passage of rapid events.

Darkthrone may find difficulty in laying claim to being solely a black metal band if they want to continue making albums such as Sardonic Wrath.
Black metal in its infancy relished in minimalism and bleakness, but Sardonic Wrath has the vibe of an old GBH album.
[6/10] Sardonic Wrath is the third Darkthrone outing in a row that begs to ask if Darkthrone is actually a punk band moonlighting as 2 veteran black metal warriors.

 Darkthrone (Dorfdisco Berlin)
Darkthrone’s 1991's 'A Blaze in the Northern Sky' was the album that helped kickstart modern Norwegian black metal, a movement whose key players would come to be known to the outside world more from their criminal activities than their music.
A cult band in the true sense of the word, Darkthrone’s members are as elusive as they are music savvy.
With songs clocking in at 7-10 minutes long, Celtic Frost-inspired riffs, and tortured, delirious wailing indecipherably bestowing drummer/lyricist Fenriz’s Satanic verse, 'Blaze' was unlike anything else floating around in the fetid waters of the extreme metal underground and served as a manifesto for the band’s following three albums, all recorded on 4-track.

 Darkthrone Biography/Discography
The controversy gradually died down after Darkthrone signed to the Moonfog label, released a sequence of relatively inoffensive albums and played a farewell concert in April 1996, although by this time Enger had left the band.
Furthermore, the album's title was said to have been inspired by the suicide of Mayhem singer Dead, who had been wearing an "I Love Transilvania" shirt at the time of his death, while the late Mayhem guitarist Euronymous claimed to have cooked and eaten parts of the man's brain after discovering his body.
Nilsen left the band, unhappy with the new approach, although he appeared as a session player on their debut album.

It is the pinnacle achievement in the style of their recent albums, _Ravishing Grimness_ and _Plaguewielder_, and reflects the essence of _A Blaze in the Northern Sky_ without totally embodying it.
It starts with a slow dirge and an almighty, foreboding bass guitar (yes, bass on a Darkthrone record!) which gradually picks up pace until we're at a solid mid-tempo thrash.
