 Danny Seraphine
Chicago drummer Danny Seraphine plays in a style that, ironically perhaps, can best be described as lyrical.
Therefore, you can relax and create a freer music without it sounding strained.
He is hopeful that Chicago will inspire other musicians to be aware of the possibilities available through the use of imagination and open minds toward forms of music other than their own.

 Chicago Bios
Danny parted ways with the band in 1990.
In 1998, Seraphine was manager and drummer for the Denver funk-group, Lyric, and ran his own music-production company in Evergreen.
He was a Chicago fan prior to being in the band and lists Terry Kath as one of his influences.

Fancy Colours - Christopher's Chicago Page!
Danny Seraphine was fired by the band in 1990 before "Hearts In Trouble", recorded for the DAYS OF THUNDER soundtrack, violating the gentlemen's agreement of 1967, because he was paying too much attention to the band's business dealings with management, and less attention to drum playing.
John Keane (whose brother Tom played acoustic piano on some tracks for Chicago 18) played drums on 11 of the 12 songs on the subsequent album, Twenty-1, produced by Ron Nevison, and released in January, 1991.
Chas Sanford and Ron Nevison split the producing duties, and the Diane Warren -written song "Look Away", featuring Champlin's lead vocals, became the fastest charting single in the band's history, as well as their biggest selling single, peaking at #1.

 chicago
In 1967, Chicago musicians Robert Lamm, James Pankow, Walter Parazaider, Lee Loughnane, Terry Kath, Peter Cetera, and Danny Seraphine formed a group with one dream, to integrate all the musical diversity from their beloved city and weave a new sound, rock 'n' roll band with horns.
When Chicago gathered at the Caribou Ranch to record its seventh album in the fall of 1973, the initial intention was to do a jazz album, with the resulting "Italian From New York," "Aire," and "Devil's Sweet" contributed by Lamm, Seraphine, Parazaider, and Pankow.
Their dream turned into 20 Top Ten singles, 12 Top Ten albums (five of which were #1), and sales of more than 120 million records.

 Old Chicago news
The other track is a studio recording of "A Song for Richard and His Friends" without any vocals.
There's a nice groove and Danny Seraphine sounds much more active on this track, recorded in 1972, than he does on the Chicago XI track.

Dacus was recommended by Columbia Records president Bruce Lundvall and was the last of 30 guitarists Chicago heard at drummer Danny Seraphine's house in California.
Chicago has sold nearly 50 million records, but after separating with Jim Guercio, their manager and producer of 11 years, and losing Terry Kath, it looked like their reign might be over.
"There was too much credibility in Guercio and not enough in the band," Seraphine says.

 The Official Dakota Home Page
Band drummer Tony Romano had left the group prior to the sessions, and Danny gladly pitched in and played drums on the album (also appearing on the album as players were guitarists Richie Zito and Paul Jackson, bassist Neal Steubenhouse, Rolling Stones sax-man Ernie Watts, Chicago singer Bill Champlin and Toto keyboardist Steve Porcaro).
Steph broke up in late 1981, and Rick heard through the grapevine that Northeast Pa. recording band Dakota was auditioning.
Less than a year later, he was off to Hollywood with Dakota to record Runaway (MCA-5502), on the MCA/Full Moon label, engineered by Humberto Gatica, and produced by 'Hummy' and Danny Seraphine.

 Rocky Mountain News: Columnists
Seraphine, the former drummer for Chicago, is the executive producer and music supervisor for the film.
Comedian Jay Mohr and music man Danny Seraphine were in Denver recently to wine and dine some deep-pocket dudes to see if they were willing to put some dough into Lonely Street, a new movie starring Mohr and produced by Seraphine.
"I'm really high on this project," Seraphine told me on the night of the Broadway opening of Brooklyn, the musical that played in Denver.

 Chicago - Goldmine
In 1990 Seraphine was out, and new drummer Tris Imboden was in.
Pankow divulged, in fact, that the problems with Seraphine went back to even before Kath's death.
A few years later another founding Chicago member left the fold, this time drummer Seraphine.

The Maynard Ferguson Tribute Page - Sound Clips - Fan-Addicts
Many Maynard fans are unaware of this, but Maynard was a guest on Chicago's 1979 album, "Chicago 13." He appeared on the tune "Street Player." Here's the story as I heard it: Maynard and his band were in the studio recording the album "Hot," and Chicago was across the hall recording at the same time.
The Chicago brass, being Maynard fans, asked Maynard to sit in on a tune, and to be fair, Chicago drummer Danny Seraphine sat in on "Rocky II Disco."
This is a live clip of MF's cadenza during Pagliacci.

 Past Founding Members
Danny Seraphine, founding member and drummer for Chicago, left the group in 1989 for a variety of reported reasons.
This is plainly evident by the myriad of guitarists that have been through the ranks of Chicago since his death.
One report states that he was fired because he "no longer fits the image that Chicago wants to project." Another report states that he quit because he was extremely tired of the incessant touring that the group was involved in.

 Bob Vogt-Recording Engineer--Hollywood - Bits and Pieces-1 or 2 day gigs
Chicago 19 was tracked in A with Ron Nevison and had 3 top 10's with a #1 "Look Away" that Bill Champlin sang.
I got a call at home one day from some thug in Philly and he talked of this record.
Nevison was pretty pompous and rode Danny Seraphine hard because he wanted to use a session drummer, but Danny did great.

Straight Dope Staff Report: What does the Chicago lyric "25 or 6 to 4" mean?
Big Thing, incidentally, was the band name used by Robert Lamm, James Pankow, Walter Parazaider, Lee Loughnane, Terry Kath and Danny Seraphine when they first got together.
After some mild success, they opened for a band called The Exceptions for two weeks.
It's always wise to leave such big things in our hands, Dennis.
