Their first album, which was self-titled, was released in November 1991.
The album reached the Top 5 on the Billboard 200 and number 3 in Canada.
With "Insane in the Brain" becoming a crossover hit, the album went double platinum in the U.S. and sold 3.25 million albums.

The rap crew from LA got famous in 1991 for their debut album 'Cypress Hill', which is still a must-have for any serious hip-hop head and has to be one of the best west-coast albums ever published.
Their second album 'Black Sunday' had some great songs on it, but I found it slightly repetitive and the downfall of Cypress Hill continued with a terrible third album entitled 'Temple of Boom'.
All hyped up by the media I got the album the day it came out and popped it into my hi-fi: The first song was quite impressive with a cool beat and tight lyrics (explicit as ever).

Muggs was producing records for a rap group he was a part of, 7A3 (who had an album and a minor rap hit--"Drums Of Steel"--in the late 80s for Geffen Records).
Complete with the spooky imagery on their album covers, B-Real's eerie, vivid, sometimes paranoid lyrical musings, and the overall dark smoky vibe that was the Cypress aura, instead of running away from the rock group comparisons, Cypress Hill embraced it.
The result is an album that finds the group taking risks with their sound while taking on new challenges.

For all the criticism people have leveled at the Hill over the years, very few hiphop artists have put together a list of albums that can compete with the 4 Cypress Hill records, the Soul Assassins and Pyscho Realm albums, and the remix record.
Muggs is dabbling all over the place on this album, from the occasional electronic freak-out to latin guitar and instrumentation.
If you plan on listening to this album without a joint in your hand and then you may as well drink Coors Cutter and watch Women's Basketball.

The metal songs on the album are a nice change and show that Cypress Hill refuses to stand still and rehash the same material over and over like so many bands seem content to do.
The heavy music on the album is not the best rap metal you can find out there, but it is certainly loud, aggressive and will have the kids rocking this summer.
Of course, in usual Cypress Hill fashion, there are a few songs on the album about weed.

If they released another album that resembled Black Sunday, they would definitely still be on top of the world like they were in 1993.

The album on one side is dark, hardcore rap music, and the other side is a lot of reggae, party joints, and good times.
As Shelblack shot Cypress outside, I posted up in the studio and blazed an el with Soul Assassin Chase Infinite and listened to Mugg's new Eminem track he was remixing for his Power 106 radio show.
Al came down and busted a couple of tracks on the album, which is cool 'cause we had him since he was 12 or 13 years old.

Cypress Hill travels the precarious trail of rap-rock with sheer audacity and actually manage to pull it off most of the time, bouncing between confident chugging anthems ("Rock Superstar") and lightweight pap ("A Man").
The album art of the new Cypress Hill release shows the members of Hill posing in front of what looks like the catacombs of Rome and features many more drawings that make one wonder why they haven't bothered trying to copyright the pot leaf.
Skull and Bones is by far Hill's most coherent and exiting release since their 1991 debut, and features mostly mind-crushingly elephantine beats, instead of the predominately lackadaisical "blunted" pot-core that soured both III and IV.

This is there best album since IV and shows that not only are Cypress Hill back, there back and want to kick some ass.
In a year with dissapointing rap albums 2004 was needing someone comming out with a fresh sound.
