 BNR Metal Pages -- Gorgoroth
They've got the standard corpsepaint visual, they have suitably black-metal-like pseudonyms, their present and past members have several ties to other black metal bands, and most importantly, their music is firmly rooted in old-school black metal, in the tradition of Darkthrone, Marduk, and the like.
Formed in 1992 and taking their name from Lord Of The Rings (as have many other bands), Gorgoroth is a pretty typical Norwegian black metal band in many respects.
As a result, much of their work, particularly the early albums like Antichrist, is on the generic side -- certainly they've nailed the style to a T, but there isn't a lot that distinguishes them from other similarly-styled bands.

Fog Interview - Infernal Dominion Magazine
Don Rottenbucher: Fog is an American Black Metal Band, let alone a Black Metal band without Corpsepaint?
DR: Fog seems to let the music do the talking.
FOG: We want the music to stand on its own merit.

 BNR Metal Pages -- Enthroned
Bearing virtually all of the characteristics of the genre (corpsepaint, odd member names, satanic imagery and lyrics, and a fast, blast-beat-filled musical style), they are far from the most original of bands, but they are competent within the genre.
Enthroned is Belgium's representative in the old-school black metal field, having been formed in 1993 and with six albums to date.

 New CDs Reviews
Corpsepaint and blastbeats, screams and supersonic speeds, that's all characterizes the Black Metal of the Greek band Naer Mataron, a Black Metal old fashioned and raw, with no keyboards and some of the best drums we have ever heard.
The album is not for those with weak stomaches, and certainly not for those that fall down with the sight of blood, but if you like Horror or Splatter movies, you will find the perfect music background for your visual pleasure.
The story of the band starts back in 1994, and this is their third release, and maybe their best so far.

 Black metal question
While they do wear the corpsepaint, etc., I can' t help but love their album Forests Of Witchery, mostly for the beautiful melodies they write, and I happen to like keyboards in hard metal.
The only black metal band I am really into is Thy Serpent, from Finland.

StarVox Staff top 10 of 2002
Sporting their traditional corpsepaint, the blackened-thrashers from the frozen north have never sounded better.

A Tribute To Black Metal : Darkthrone
Their bassist, Dag Nilsen, didn't like this new music/image and left the band.
After this release they left the Death Metal concept in advantage of the newly invention/discovery done by Euronymous; Northern Black Metal.
They also started using aliases (Gylve Nagell became Fenriz, Ted Skjellum became Nocturno Culto and Ivar Enger became Zephyrous) and corpsepaint.

These days there are many black metal bands popping out in Japan, I have a hunch that they just copy the leading bands without knowing what black metal is. What do you think of them?
You know heavy metal bands have a long hair and wear leather jackets.
What do you think of Visual bands with make-ups?

Live 4 Metal - Live Reviews
Bleakness Panoramic sees a band that has never flirted with corpsepaint or had band members resorting to suicidal shotgun shenanigans but this may well be the best example of modern music with its origins seeped in Black Metals primitive roots.
Not too sure of the names of the players but they featured Tony from The Enchanted on second guitar (two weeks in the band), a complete fucking lunatic on vocals and main guitar and a bassist whose corpsepaint looked like it was applied by a 5 year old.
To be fair though the music was far from mere butchery and the only thing being cut up tonight were our eardrums.

 DEATH METAL ROCK MUSIC
Other band members were called "Necro Butcher," "Dead," and "Hellhammer." One of the trademarks of Mayhem and other Norwegian Black Metal groups is the wearing of "corpsepaint," which is black and white makeup designed to create a morbid appearance.
He was murdered by another Death Metal rocker, Varg Vikernes, of the group Burzum.
Aarseth operated an occultic bookstore/record shop in Oslo that was very influential upon young people.

 [No title]
But a lot of people now - because the new album sounds good and all that, everyone's saying, "How come you're still wearing corpsepaint when you're on Nuclear Blast?" and stuff.
Especially, coming to Germany and seeing German bands with corpsepaint on, we're just like "Oh, no."
And I just say, "Well, nobody told Gene Simmons to take it off!" And they weren't the evil-est band in the world, you know?

 MINDVIEW - CDReviews - BETHZAIDA
If you're into the dark Norwegian music scene but think the satanic image and corpsepaint to match are a bit overdone, you'll definitely love the atmospheric dark metal of Bethzaida.
This Quintet has managed to create a link between the cold, dark feelings of hate they already express in their chopping riffs and beautiful mesmerising melodies.
Something you just have to do in order to discover all the hidden elements on this brilliant CD.

The Rickety Old Shack -- Turning "yelling at stuff" into a lifestyle...
Judging from your work on the Orquesta album, do you consider yourself a fan of mellower music, or was that just a departure from the norm?
I am a fan of nearly every type of music, because I share the opinion that in every genre there is greatness as well as shit.
Although, I doubt I'll see you in black metal corpsepaint, hailing the Morning Star...

 Mother North - Gorgoroth Concert
Spot the famous this time was very successfull as we before the concert at Möller's Pub met the lead singer of Gorgoroth Gaahl, sorry we didn't get a pic of him, but further down he's in full corpsepaint at the concert.
We didn't take that many pictures, 'cause we were of course busy moshing away, but anyway managed to get a few for your viewing pleasure.

 Reviews: page 1
Female black metal bands, it must be said are about as rare as dodo shit, so it's nice to come across one occasionally.
However, for all the blast beats and in parts beautiful keyboard work, the whole thing is let down by a poor production, uncharacteristic of a certain M.W. Daoluth.
Greek trio Astarte may look like Charlies Angels in corpsepaint but their primitive keyboard driven black metal is less than pretty and Kinthia's vocals are anything but feminine.

 The Lanternjack
They had something big planned, they assured me. Word on the street was that they had a night of Nordic Black Metal planned, nail armbands, corpsepaint and blood.
In one of those classic rock and roll 'Hail Mary' moves, local post-indie, gasket blowing noise tyrants Black Helicopter signed on to save the night.

 DARK DOMINATION...Official Web Site...
The lyrical themes on the two recordings that make up "Blasphemy", are somewhat different, judging by the song titles.
I think that if someday DD decides that there is no need for corpsepaint anymore, the band should cease to exist, since it will betray the principles of its foundation.
Though frankly speaking we did not have huge funds either.

 DEAD ANGEL 51
Pym (rolling eyes): This black metal and corpsepaint business is getting very fucking old.
No wonder The Headless Sno-Cone Girl wants to dominate your ass.
The Moon Unit's rambling around in corpsepaint and babbling about fucking Burzum all the time, that freak with the tattoos and the hat is disassembling the whole place so he can make funny noises, the Headless Sno-Cone Girl is now a burning bush of fire, and you...

 Doom-metal.com: Bandlist entry
Very depressive and monotonous music, slow as hell with distant distorted grunts.
Nortt, a one man project, describes himself as Black/Doom.
Despite the black-metal imagery (replete with corpsepaint), Nortt is extreme Funeral Doom-metal of massive proportions.

 Something about John Zwetsloot
He wanted to play more heavy and death metal music, while other members were more into new black metal style.
He said that none of the band members were in this (corpsepaint, names,...) and that this is quite much to thanks to him (John Zwetsloot).
He never believed in wearing corpsepaint and using names like 'Höstmörkrets onde svamp-plockare' or 'Holocaustlordgoblin of the realms that's lies beyond crematory' or 'Bilbo' or whatever...

 SATYRICON - KHOLD
On this basis the rest of the band (obviously only rented for this tour as normally everything is done by Satyr) played the songs tight and without the slightest mistake.
, the band didnÂ’t have a soundcheck, didnÂ’t care about getting some corpsepaint which they normally used during the tour, was boring and performed so unmotivated that I doubt they made many friends that gig.
Boring and uninspired… that is all I can say about KHOLD.

 Nattfodd : EngineerAndInventor.com
I, however, find it refreshing, amusing, and a damn enjoyable listen.
"Evil" kids who like to pose in corpsepaint and draw pentagrams and mayhem logos on thier school books will probably laugh at this kind of music.
If not - read some of the more descriptive reviews.

 Goddess of Desire
We don't need white corpsepaint, because we already have a white skin (a good question to all those black metal bands who wear corpsepaint...)
I've heard you use alot of fire/explosions at your shows...
When one of them left the band I was asked to join.

 DIMMU BORGIR
But if one looks at your photos and listens to your music, one might probably come to the conclusion that your extreme outfit doesnÂ’t fit the melodic and harmonic music you make.
Is corpsepaint a means to increase the exposure and attention a band receives nowadays?
"If a band uses make-up or corpsepaint, as you call it, I would say that the only people who know about the reason must be the members behind.

 December CD Archive
Abigor are one of the few bands in the genre that are still taking the time to don corpsepaint and leathermetal armour for their shows.
I know a lot of people think corpsepaint is silly, and makes black metal hard to take seriously.
The old Norwegian countries celebrated a ritualised chaos, known by various names, but most easily translated as "The Wild Hunt." Part of this ritualised chaos included young men painting their faces like daemons or living corpses, and practising the fine art of berserk.

 Interview with Dead 1988
I wear my corpsepaint when I should really concentrate and live into my lyrics and that is on stage!
I think your voice sounds like a possessed, slaughtered goat!
But I must tell you, no one of us is normal.

 REVIEWS O
Line-up problems became another setback in the band's career then, but Maurice and the gang even managed to survive those and recently returned to the scene with their fourth full-length "Rage To Revenge", the band's first release for Belgium's Painkiller Records.
If you still freak out on experienced songwriting, intense killer riffing and an overall brutal Thrash assault, without any neo aggressive influences, you can still pick this up without hesitation, as the wellknown slogan "Thrash 'Till Death!" once more sums this up best!
OCCULT have neither wimped out throughout the years, nor jumped on any trendy bandwaggon in order to become more famous (they even stopped wearing corpsepaint at a time when everybody else was doing it), so all power to them!

[ aquarius records new arrivals list #120 ]
This new disc isn't an earthshattering leap forward in the annals of the dark arts (they don't constantly innovate like labelmates Satyricon) but they give you what you want: good old true black metal in the Darkthrone tradition (which IS the true black metal tradition).
Portland, Oregon trio Dear Nora make very very pretty, but not sugary pop.
Digipackaged, with suitably scary (and arty) artwork, and pics of Fenriz and Nocturno sans corpsepaint.

 BEHEMOTH INTERVIEW
T-shirts showed up as a tribute to their music, not their acts!
Our corpsepaintings and weapons are part of the cult we admire, so it´s not a trendy act.
I dont want to attract stupid children with my leather clothes, painted face and battleaxe.

 Christian Metal News!
This band will go far, hear my words.
I have never been a fan of corpsepaint, it just looks lame and pathetic in my eyes and I see no use in trying to look as evil as possible and when all Antestor said was "We want more blood" it was really pathetic in my opinion.
However this time I couldn't really get into them, it was just too much corpsepaint and too little Christ in their liveshow.

Darkthrone - Satan Stole My Teddybear
Before all the corpsepaint and hilarious interviews stating their new direction in black metal, Norway's Darkthrone started out as a fairly commonplace and unexceptional death metal act that was neither good nor bad for its time.
With the exception of Fenriz calling himself Hank Amarillo in those days (face it, this man is easily the wittiest and most amusing individual in the entire Norwegian metal scene), there is little to really note about Soulside Journey.
While the band still enjoys a cult following, it's doubtful anyone truly believes they wear corpsepaint around the clock, invoke demons and spend countless hours devising ways to bring down the entire Judeo-Christian world.

 REVIEWS - From Beyond #4
Well, perhaps they use corpsepaint for what I know cause musically they lend some stuff from early- to mideighties thrash and some from newer DARKTHRONE (who then again also lend quite a bit from early-to mideighties thrash when one think about it).

Kult ov Azazel - Visionaries... Reviews
Black metal is the culmination of the evil inherent in each of our souls translated into a music or non-musical form.
Some choose to adorn themselves with tattoos, black leather, spikes, corpsepaint and other notions to enhance a spirituality and mood that matches the music.
Black metal isn't just black leather wimps in corpsepaint wielding swords as they prance about in the snow, forests, or some equally remote spot.

The Rickety Old Shack -- Turning "yelling at stuff" into a lifestyle...
OK, so Black Metal is "evil" &; that's been well established — but, what's with the corpsepaint?
Through the usage of these aesthetic components we not only become closer to our Pagan gods (who would, no doubt, wear such things), as well as projecting our true evil nature to the world.
The paint completes our Black Metal warrior image; true warriors of Thor (or whatever Pagan diety thou wisely believeth in) must wear it, as well as the spikes and weapons.

It's about having interesting ideas and transform them into music.
Is not about how fast are you playing, about how much corpsepaint you use or how satanic you sound.

Yes I think the corpsepaint and spikes, blood and fire are all important elements that go with the music.
In Black metal do you feel that the image, (corpsepaint, spikes etc...) is essential to the BM package, or is image just something that comes with playing BM and being involved in it?
All these things create a visual and visual is an important factor in creating an atmosphere and energy.

It's not so important to use corpsepaint when you take photos but when we play live it's more important to use this makeup cause it gets you in another state of mind, it's like releasing the beast within yourself.
Q) You feel better with it, on stage?

Now if your dream has always been to apply corpsepaint and need a good book-i suggest you get this one because it is pretty good.

I have to be back by seven, but thatÂ’s enough time to go to that evil bar again, where everyone ist just like me. I dressed very satanically and did the corpsepaint and I wore my upside-down cross around my neck and I painted my fingernails black.
Probably because of my “corpsepaint” or whatever that stuff is called, that I have on my face when I go to school.
