Mark Dresser - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
1952) is a virtuoso contrabass player who has performed and recorded with many of the luminaries of 'new' jazz composition and improvisation.
Dresser has been composing and performing solo contrabass and ensemble music professionally since 1972 throughout North America, Europe and the Far East.
Invocation, on Knitting Factory Works is the most recent CD of Dresser's contrabass music.

 Bassists in the Doghouse(Contrabass Page)
They performed for contrabass the service that Paganini or Kreisler did for the violin.
In the age of 'ancient music', some composers featured the contrabass, or exactly, the violone as solo instrument.

 contrabass
Tessares (Greek for "four") is scored for Violin, Clarinet, Contrabass and Percussion.
It is a setting of five poems by the Newfoundland poet Al Pittman and is scored for Soprano, Flute, Clarinet, Horn, Violin, Violoncello, Contrabass, Piano, and Percussion.
It is a set of four variations in which each of the instruments has its own notational series and candenza.

Like the alto and baritone saxophones, the contrabass saxophone is tuned to Eb.
Check out my solo performances page to hear mp3 audio recordings with the contrabass saxophone.
As a benefit of all low Eb instruments (including baritone sax), it is easy to use the contrabass saxophone to play music written for tuba, string bass, bass trombone, bassoon, and any other bass clef music written for instruments tuned in C. How?

 Capstone Records: Corrado Cononici, contrabass
I guess Contrabass is the title of the album, and its also Canonici 's instrument.
Corrado Canonici 's solo Capstone release includes a premiere recording of Luciano Berio, as well as music by Cage, Scelsi, and a number of other progressive composers.
Ombretta Macchi's solo soprano leaps out of the recording from some other concert space -- that of the traditional avant-garde art-song.

About the Nuclear Whales and their Music
Her recent concert band extravaganza: Teen-age-mutant-ninja-drummers, has been a big hit(!) in her school system, where the PTA is considering major cutbacks in music funding.
Its basso profundo tones are featured on the orchestra's newest album, which was released in September 1991.
These individual voices blend into flamboyant unexpected combinations, such as the album's "Casbah Shuffle" duet for sopranino and contrabass: the long and short of saxophone.

Basstrombone.nl - Your portal to the world of trombone playing
First of all, I think the contrabass trombone deserves his place in the trombone family, both in the symphony orchestra but also in the trombone ensemble repertoire.
If you have interesse to hear me on the contra, listen to my CD "Nana", where I play with the New York Philharmonic trb-section 2 Bruckner Motets.
Ladies and gentlemen, trombone lovers, welcome to this presentation of the lowest member of the trombone family, "the contrabass trombone".

A Survey of Solo Literature for Contrabass Tuba - David Zerkel
The main challenge on the Contrabass Tuba will be in keeping the music light and energetic.
The big challenges faced in this piece are the wide intervallic leaps at the very beginning of the piece, the extended section of multiple tonguing in the finale and the “sales” aspect of making this an appealing piece of music to the audience.
The technical and musical requirements are daunting for a large instrument.

Michael's Saxophone Page - Orsi Contrabass, Keilwerth Bass, Yamaha Baritone, Dave Guardala, And Other Saxophones
From Eb sopranino to Eb contrabass, I test-play them both at L.A. Sax, March 7th, 2003.
Although I was still inexperienced with the contrabass saxophone, I did well enough that the orchestra conductor asked me to perform with it that evening.
Several folks in the audience were fascinated with it and asked to hear it.

Learn more about Guitar in the online encyclopedia.
There are also tenor guitars, baritone guitars tuned ADGCEA (or GDGCDG, GDGCEA, GCGCEG,...) a fifth lower than a normal guitar, treble guitars tuned a fourth higher than a standard (prime) guitar, and contrabass guitars, which are tuned one octave lower than prime guitars.
Broadly speaking, guitars can be divided into 2 categories:

 Contrabass Clarinet
The Eb contra is also popular because one can sight-transpose bass clef music (read the bass clef music by pretending its treble, while adjusting the key signature by removing 3 flats or adding 3 sharps or a combination).
You may still be able to find one at a music store...
Older instruments will usually have a range extended down to low D or Eb.

The Contrabass, a neglected vocal resource
Yet there are many teachers who refuse to allow these boys to sing in their comfortable range and label them "deficient singers" if the boys cannot or will not sing music assigned to them by these ill-advised teachers.
As a result, the contrabass has all but disappeared from the vocal scene.
Most important, when you have developed some contrabasses, what music are you then able to perform successfully that had formerly been beyond your capabilities?

 Contrabass Saxophone
He plays a vintage Buffet, and can be heard on his CD "Vintage Saxophones Revisited." Evette made about 25 contras, between 1900 and 1925, of which 8 or 9 are believed still "alive." The remaining horns were made by Kohlert and Orsi.
The first piece on the tape is a recording of Cowell's "Hymn andFuguing Tune #18" from his CD "Vintage Saxophones Revisited".

GAJOOB Reviews Morgan Guberman -- solo contrabass
This recording is quite rare, with it being an experimental solo contrabass album (solo with the exception of an occasional female voice or what sounded like a flash of toy piano) and is something of an acquired taste (like most all truly experimental recordings).
The album is consistent throughout with enough ideas for the contrabass to prevent it from becoming stale..
Morgan Guberman could be compared to a solo version of Kronos Quartet (in that, they are both in the classical vein and both thrive on neurotic expression).

Sax on the Web > Fun with Vintage Saxophones by Pete Hales
I've been impressed with contrabass performances since I heard the one on Professor Paul Cohen's Vintage Saxophones Revisited CD, but the contrabass there is used in a relatively sedate orchestral piece.
Verdi brought three horns that I am incredibly interested in: a Conn-O-Sax (not used in the performance and not discussed here, but it's a beauty), a Dolnet curved Eb sopranino and, the horn I came specifically to see, an original Evette and Schaeffer (Buffet-Crampon) Eb contrabass.
One day I hope to see a full saxophone choir:

Now and then, the Boston Symphony Orchestra undertakes a work that requires an instrument that falls outside the traditional orchestral palate.

Recently, however, there has been a growth of interest in the sarrusophone, not only among museums and collectors, but among musicians as well.
Ernst Guiraud (1837-1892), in his Traité pratique d'instrumentation, completed in 1891 and published in 1894, still speaks of seven sarrusophones, and highlights the use made of the contrabass in symphonic music.

Hampshire Recorder Sinfonia - The Full Range
There is, incredibly, a recorder larger than the ContraBass - the elusive Sub-ContraBass in C, these are a recent addition to the family, and as yet music written or arranged for recorder orchestra does not typically come with a sub-contrabass part, although any sub-contrabass wners are most welcome to join our ranks!!!
The recorders pictured cover more than 5 octaves, and represent most of the recorder family.
Dolmetsch are planning to produce a sub-sub-contrabass in F (also called an octo-contrabass) as part of their millenium recorders project, such an instrument will have a pipe almost 12 feet long and will have a lowest note with a frequency of 45Hz, just one semitone above the lowest note on a double bass!

Conn offered the Eb contrabass Sarrusophone as their Eb contrabass saxophone alternative.

The ContraBass unit features extended low-frequency range of 16Hz to 125 Hz filling the increasing demand for an accurate extended-range, low frequency response subwoofer with high acoustic output and compact size.
Due to the fact that the thermal time constant on the motor armature is long, large short-term power levels can be safely tolerated.
