They adopted the name Clock DVA from A Clockwork Orange, a book and film that depicted a violent future where language was a mixture of English and Russian.
Although in Russian dva is pronounced "dee-vah", Adi pronounces it "dee-veh" which is evident in the song "1.23." During that same year, former partners Ware and Marsh had another band in the works called the British Electronic Foundation and released a cassette called Music For Stowaways.

A product of the same mid-'70s Sheffield industrial music community which also gave rise to Throbbing Gristle and Cabaret Voltaire, Clock DVA emerged in 1980 from the ashes of area bands including the Studs, Block Opposite, Veer and They Must Be Russians as well as the Future, an early incarnation of the Human League.
After a series of shifting lineups, a roster comprised of vocalist Adi Newton, bassist Steven Taylor, guitarist Paul Widger, saxophonist Charlie Collins and drummer Roger Quail recorded Clock DVA's debut White Souls in Black Suits, a cassette-only, improvisational release fusing metallic noise with funk and soul designs which was issued on Throbbing Gristle's Industrial label.
However, Carruthers and Sanderson both exited following the LP's release; after a brief attempt to forge on as a trio, Clock DVA disbanded in late 1983.

Rock Around the Clock told a highly fictionalized rendition of how rock and roll was discovered, but moviegoers didn't care about the plotline; they wanted to hear the music.
The film was shot over a short period of time in January 1956 to capitalize on Haley's success and the popularity of his multimillion-selling recording "Rock Around the Clock", and is considered the first major rock and roll musical film.

Liner Notes to the Strawberry Alarm Clock's "The World in a Seashell"
When the Strawberry Alarm Clock recorded their third album in 1968, they were struggling to regain the phenomenal success they'd enjoyed in late 1967, when "Incense and Peppermints" shot to the top of the charts and their debut album of the same name stopped just outside the Top Ten.
Back before the Strawberry Alarm Clock were even on UNI, they'd recorded a backing track to the song that eventually became "Incense and Peppermints." Guitarist Ed King writes on his website (www.ed-king.com) that "Mark Weitz wrote the bulk of the music and I wrote the bridge.
No relation to Strawberry Alarm Clock rhythm guitarist Lee Freeman, Roy Freeman had also been responsible for the words on "Sit with the Guru," a low-charting single that appeared on their second album.

Bill Haley and His Comets: Rock Around the Clock - PopMatters Music Review
Rock around the Clock is an album that writes its own epitaph: the closing track, "Rock-A-Beatin' Boogie" most appropriately opens with the perfect self-description of its record's contents: "You take a rock / You take a beat / You take a boogie / You make it sweet".
His magical sound of thumping backbeat, of driving acoustic bass lines, and of tenor saxophone dueling it out with tremolo guitars is referred to as "Boogie" in the title of one third of the original album's 12 tracks.
While the songs lack the self-awareness and detached irony that came to pervade rock and roll with the advent of the British invasion, the honesty and humor of the songs is undeniably fun.

Actually, the Strawberry Alarm Clock were both at once, and as a result, songs like "Incense and Peppermints" and "Rainy Day Mushroom Pillow" are both somehow more honest evocations of the real spirit of '67 as most people actually experienced it and, frankly, much better pop songs than, say, "Somebody To Love".
