Clef - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The clef is used, rarely, for soprano parts of a piece of music.
In the seventeenth and eighteenth centuries, a special clef was used for violin music, particularly that published in France.
A clef (French for key) is a symbol used in musical notation that assigns notes to lines and spaces on the musical staff.

 Clef Symbols
A C clef symbol placed on the third line of the musical staff marks that line as middle C. C clef pointing to the third line of the musical staff is called an alto clef.
A C clef pointing to the fourth line of the musical staff marks that line as C. It is called a tenor clef.
F clef and the G clef helped to designate which key the singer will sing the song.

 MUS 319 Clef Transposition Guidelines
Similarly, a tenor clef part which is written in the key of C may be recorded in the key of D, and read as if written in treble clef, if the track is transposed down two half-steps (-2).
If you have difficulty reading alto or tenor clef, you may digitally transpose the track to which the alto- or tenor-clef instrument is assigned and read/record the part in treble clef, substituting a new key signature an accidentals as necessary.
ACCIDENTALS: Converting alto clef accidentals to treble clef accidentals will vary, depending upon the transposition of the track.

 Clef
Most music these days is written in either bass clef or treble clef, but some music is written in a C clef.
Summary: The clef symbol on a musical staff tells you which pitches belong on the lines and spaces of that staff.
One of the first steps in learning to read music in a particular clef is memorizing where the notes are.

SoundStage! Equipment Review - Speaker Art Super Clef Loudspeakers (10/1998)
According to Speaker Art, the Clef’s patented asymmetrical high-order series crossover network with fourth- and seventh-order slopes, (24dB per octave on the woofer, 40dB per octave on the tweeter) has a large impact on the overall sound of the speakers.
To summarize the Super Clef’s performance in this regard, it is a very gutsy speaker that, when amply powered, can fill a room with surprisingly deep bass performance (according to Speaker Art, down to 25Hz in most rooms) and a smooth, lush quality that extends through to the midrange.
If the Super Clefs are to be faulted, it is that by offering this weighty performance, they give up a little bit of tightness that some monitors offer and some listeners will prefer.

Sure the Clef may not be the most detailed or the most dynamic or the most neutral loudspeaker at its price point, but it is one of the most engrossing and musical.
The Clef garners listener compliments about how good the music sounds, with no nit-picking.

Identifying piano notes on the treble and bass clef
It is my sincere wish (and hope) that these lessons have been of benefit to you in your endeavor to learn to play the piano and to learn the basics of music education.
The number of sharps or flats tell you what "key" a piece of music is in.
Now before we begin our piano notes identification on the treble clef, bass clef, and grand staff we will need to identify where "middle C" is on the piano keyboard.

To the right of the clef is the meter, which has to do with the math and rhythm portion of notation.

 Tenor clef
This clef is sometimes used for the notation of the tenor part because it facilitates the printing of the part with minimal use of ledger lines.
The vocal tenor clef adds the number 8 below the normal G clef symbol indicating that the indicated staff should be performed one octave lower than indicated.
This clef should not be confused with the vocal tenor clef which is a G clef.

 NWCForum - reading bass clef
There is a song that I'm trying to learn on the piano (my first attempt at it) and the main part is in treble clef, but the background stuff is in bass clef.
There is no substitute, however, for just playing or singing from whatever clef the music happens to be written in.
So if the written music doesn't go below D in the middle of the bass clef, you can do the "forget the speaker key" trick, or if it goes into tenor clef, you just read in treble clef but down an octave.

If this is common piece of music, get a recording and listen to it with your part and score.
There are instances in music of the classisists where BOTH methods occur, so there is not a defined time line that indicates that pieces before a certain date would use old notation and works after a certain date use new notation.
Even 20thC composers (even those active today) are not universal in the type of bass clef notation.
