 chordophone --  Britannica Student Encyclopedia
A member of the violin family, the viola is a stringed instrument, or chordophone, that is tuned a fifth below the violin.
With a tone that is darker and warmer than the violin, the viola is an important tenor voice in string quartets and chamber music groups.
The name chordophone replaces the term stringed instrument when a precise, acoustically based designation is required.

Chordophone - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
What most westerners would call string instruments are classified as chordophones, violins, guitars, lyres, harps, for example.
A chordophone is any musical instrument which produces sound primarily by way of a vibrating string or strings stretched between two points.
However, the word also embraces instruments that many westerners would hesitate to call string instruments, such as the musical bow and the piano (which, although sometimes called a string instrument, is also called a keyboard instrument and a percussion instrument).

Then, possibly the most compelling element musically of the piece is the hard bass beat; a device used to add to the symbolic meaning and mood created by the lyrics.
As the song begins, a synthesized chordophone-like sound, in a strumming or plucking, precedes Buju’s voice and the start of the main bass line.
The piece uses several different tones and rhythms along with Buju Banton’s voice to form a breakthrough composition.
