Perkins' high-water mark came when he was part of the Million-Dollar Quartet at Sun Records with Presley and Cash and Jerry Lee, gathered around a piano for songs that never made it to the record stores.
Perkins was a member of rock 'n' roll's fabled "Million Dollar Quartet." He, Presley, Cash and Jerry Lee Lewis met for an informal jam session in the 1950s that was later released as an album.
Carl Perkins shared musical roots with Elvis, Roy Orbison, Jerry Lee Lewis.

Perkins, along with Cash and Elvis Presley, was one of the original Sun Records rockabilly stars, recording his first session only a couple of months after Presley's.
Perkins' career would never rise as high again, although he would release many more 45s, some of which are now considered to be among the best rock music of all time.
Perkins' death was not unanticipated: His final album, 1996's "Go Cat Go," featured performances in tribute by U2's Bono, George Harrison, Tom Petty, Willie Nelson and John Fogerty.

 Carl Perkins
RA 129 K. Carl Perkins, who wrote the hit song ``Blue Suede Shoes'' that helped lift Elvis Presley to stardom, and who became a legend himself as one of the founders of rock and roll, died at age 65.
At the same time that Perkins was helping launch rock music from his country roots, Chuck Berry's machine-gun guitar licks were reinventing the Blues as rock and roll.
The son of a tenant farmer in Tennessee, the singer-guitarist was among several rockabilly performers to emerge from Memphis' famed Sun Studios whose fast-paced tunes and twangy lyrics would influence dozens of rockers to come, including the Beatles, Bob Dylan and Eric Clapton.

Cash, who later hired Perkins to become part of his road show and eponymous ABC-TV series, inspired Perkins's signature song, "Blue Suede Shoes." Perkins and Elvis Presley were well acquainted long before Presley made "Blue Suede Shoes" a hit song.
The trio featured Carl as lead singer and songwriter, older brother Jay on rhythm guitar, and younger brother Clayton on guitar.
None of Perkins's subsequent hits, including "Honey Don't," "Boppin' the Blues," and "Matchbox," proved as popular as "Blue Suede Shoes." Nevertheless, Perkins's fans include a number of internationally known music stars who attribute their own musical style to his influence.

Unfortunately for Perkins, his ride to stardom came to a crashing halt when he was seriously injured in a car accident shortly after the breakthrough success of "Blue Suede Shoes." During Perkins' recovery, Elvis cut his own version of the song and forever made it a part of the Presley canon.
Perkins' guitar picking on "Everybody's Trying to be My Baby" sounds uncannily like the early Gretsch work of George Harrison, who, with the Beatles, covered four tracks available on "Dance Party."
But what Perkins lacked in physical beauty, he more than made up for with his versatile talents as a singer, guitarist and songwriter.

Carl Perkins’ claim to fame among most music buffs is his brilliant “Blue Suede Shoes,” which his fellow Sun Records artist Elvis Presley made his own a year after Perkins had already taken the song up the charts.
Unlike Presley, Perkins’ background was tenant farming and Nashville, and this shows in his originals, which comprise eleven of the fourteen tracks on this anthology.
The originals veer from blistering rockabilly to broad country, and showcase Perkins’ yelping vocals, bar room lyrics, and fiery lead guitar.

Workforce Alliance > Policy Analysis & Research > Current Federal Policies
Perkins III is a departure from previous Perkins legislation due to its emphasis on "objective, quantifiable, and measurable" performance indicators, and its requirement that states demonstrate continuous improvement relative to these measures.
Under Perkins III, special populations include people who are: living with disabilities; from economically disadvantaged families, including foster children; preparing for nontraditional training and employment; single parents, including single, pregnant women; displaced homemakers; or challenged by other barriers to educational achievement, including limited English proficiency.
This mandate to serve special populations poses a new challenge to states, since Perkins III eliminated a 10.5% funding set-aside that previous Perkins legislation had included in order to provide programs for targeted special populations like single mothers, pregnant women and displaced homemakers.
