Carl Palmer - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Carl Palmer (born Carl Fredrick Kendall Palmer in Birmingham, England on March 20, 1950) is a percussionist.
Following the final break-up of ELP in 1998, Palmer toured on-and-off with his Carl Palmer band.
Drachen Theaker was the drummer on the album, but his fear of flying meant that he was not able to tour with the group, and thus Palmer became a member of the band.

 Carl Palmer Update
Carl Palmer, legendary rock drummer and founding member of Emerson Lake and Palmer and Asia, has released Working Live, Volume I, a new solo album and the first to feature his new solo band.
Known as a “drummer’s drummer”, Carl Palmer emerged from ELP and Asia, two of the biggest superstar bands to break out of the British music scene in the 1970s and 1980s, respectively.
The record features live interpretations of some of Palmer’s best known songs, originally recorded with ELP and on his solo albums.

Carl Palmer has already announced plans for Working Live: Volume 2, to be released in 2004 (including original material) and the band continues on a torrid touring schedule to this very day.
Recalls Palmer, “yeah that was a blues band, a soul band with saxophones and everything.
With Palmer in the band the Thunderbirds enjoyed moderate success with the single "My Way of Giving” but it was the Rolling Stones cover “Out Of Time” which propelled Farlowe to the top of the UK charts.

Carl Palmer: Reviews, Discography, Audio Clips, and more Music.com
Palmer landed in PM, a band formed with guitarist/singer John Nitzinger, whose ranks also included Todd Cochran on keyboards and vocals, Barry Finnerty on guitar and vocals, and bassist/singer Erik Scott -- they were a decidedly more pop-oriented band, and cut a single album, One P.M., for Ariola in 1980 before breaking up.
In a sense, Palmer was the vertex of the triangle formed by the three personalities, a Beatles fan and a pop-rock listener like Lake, but also a jazz enthusiast like Emerson.
Palmer also managed to intersect with the Merseybeat sound on at least one occasion that year, playing a session for a single with the black Liverpool singing group the Chants.

 Yesfans.com: Founded 4/01 - Carl Palmer's drumming
Carl Palmer is one of the most overrated drummers in rock history.
The style Carl played in the ELP music from 1970-77 was the next generation of the Rich/ Krupa big band/ orchestra style and was part of the unique sound that was ELP.
Palmer and Bruford are my two favorite rock drummers.

 Carl Palmer Band
It is wonderful to listen to the music of Emerson, Lake and Palmer played not with an organ but with a guitar.
As Carl said it was not possible to find a guitarist playing ELP songs years ago.
So this snare drum seems to be part of his music.

EMERSON LAKE & PALMER (ELP) Works Vol. 1 reviews
Carl Palmer's side is IMO the stronger of the three first ones, he plays Bach and Prokofiev's music with amazing quality and imagination, plus his own music with a clear jazzy edge, his strongest tracks are "The Enemy God Dances with the Black Spirits" and "Tank".
Carl Palmer’s side is inevitably percussion based, but by and large he avoid over indulgence.
For me Carl Palmer's side is the weakest and misses the boat simply because he hasn't got a clear musical "voice" or anything particularly notable to communicate.

Emerson Lake and Palmer have been around for about thirty years and if any one knows drumming be it live or studio it's Carl Palmer.
The audience had a chance to talk to Carl up close, get an autograph or have their favorite ELP album signed.
He merged elements of big band, classical and rock to form what we now know as the Carl Palmer style.

 Do Ya Wanna Play, Carl?
Notes: Subtitled both Anthology and One More Time!, this compilation spans Carl Palmer's career from his first recorded output with The Craig in 1966 to a live track in 2000 with Qango (Wetton/Palmer band that emerged from the failed Asia reunion of 1999).
The three Asia songs, the Yes link for this album, all come from the band's debut, Asia.

Emerson, Lake and Palmer's Manticore Records
The band was formed by drummer Carl Palmer soon after Emerson, Lake and Palmer stopped working together in 1979.
In 1997 Emerson Lake and Palmer made their debut at the Montreux Jazz Festival with a performance that included all their trademark virtuosity and shownmanship.
Filmed while the band was writing, recording and touring the material that eventually became the Brain Salad Surgery album, this historic fim captures the legendary British rock band during what was unquestionably one of the most artistically fertile phases of its entire career.

Keith Emerson (keyboards), Greg Lake (guitar/bass/vocals), and Carl Palmer (drums) are a trio who put out 10 albums in the 1970's, broke up, and reformed in the 1990's to put out two albums (so far).
Their first self-titled studio release was a quieter work where Emerson displayed his brilliance on the piano in the wonderful "Take a Pebble." With Lake's rich tenor wrapped around an extended piano improvisation, "Take a Pebble" was to become an ELP concert standard.
Emerson was widely regarded as one of the most talented keyboardists in the history of rock, and Palmer one of the finest drummers.

The Exclusive Carl Palmer-Interview for classicrock-startpage.com!
CP: Yes, it's going to come out on the same label as Emerson, Lake and Palmer, the main label being in England, which is Sanctuary Records, and Adello or whatever it might be over here, I'm not too sure what their distribution is for Emerson, Lake and Palmer, I've got it written down.
I mean, basicly I made my living out of playing in a rockband: Emerson, Lake & Palmer is a rockband, Asia is a rockband, Palmer is a rockband, but I enjoy classical music, and I've managed to bridge the gap with classical percussion.

Subsequent releases, which included production work from Felix Pappalardi and Carl Palmer, failed to capture the spirit of the debut set or the fire of their live performances.
Activate (Tony Hicks replaced by Adrian Tilbrook) was produced by Carl Palmer and is apparently an improvement, I have yet to hear this album so will reserve final judgement.
The praise and attention generated by the album resulted in the band signing to Warner Brothers Records, who later reissued the set.
