 Carl Maria von Weber
Weber's master was an amiable charlatan, whose weakness as a teacher was thoroughly exposed, in perfect innocence, by his two illustrious pupils.
Weber wrote the first note of the music of Der Freischütz on the 2nd of July, beginning with the duet which opens the second act.
In furtherance of this scheme, Weber was taught to sing and play the piano almost as soon as he could speak, though he was unable to walk until he was four years old.

Carl Maria von Weber - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Weber's colourful harmonies and orchestration, the use of popular themes from central European folk music, and the gloomy (gothic) libretto, complete with an appearance of the Devil himself in a nocturnal forest, have all helped to ensure its popularity.
While much of Weber's piano music has fallen out of the repertory, his orchestral overtures, his clarinet music and his opera 'Der Freischutz' remain regularly performed.
Liszt frequently performed Weber's music and made editions of his piano sonatas.

Weber's chamber music includes a Clarinet Quintet and a Grand Duo Concertant for clarinet and piano, successors to the concertos and concertino for Baermann.
Weber also wrote two piano concertos and a Konzertstück for piano and orchestra for his own use, as well as a useful Horn Concertino and Bassoon Concerto.
He made a favourable impression as a pianist and then as a music director, notably in the opera-houses of Prague and Dresden.

Carl Maria von Weber composes some of the greatest and most difficult music I have ever heard.

 Carl Maria von Weber
For, rather than interplay among the instruments, where all have an equal voice in the discourse, Weber’s chamber music, the Clarinet Quintet in particular, is more like a concerto with clarinet as soloist and the strings as an accompaniment.
Excepting his works for solo instrument with piano accompaniment, of which there are six violin sonatas, Weber produced only three chamber music works - The Piano Quartet op 18 (1809) which he titled "Grand Quatour", the Clarinet Quintet op 34 (1815) entitled "Grosses Quintet" and the Trio for Flute, Cello and Piano op 63 (1819).
It is a tribute to Weber’s ability that having written only three chamber works, this piece remains a favorite in the standard repertory.

 OperaWorld.com's Opera Insights: Oberon
Once again, Weber took on the overhaul of a stagnant company this time battling to inject German opera into a musical scene dominated by Italians and Italian music.
Several arrangers (including Mahler) have attempted to ‘make it over'---there was even one worthy but unimaginative attempt to do what Weber wanted by turning the dialogues into recitative and ‘dramatic music.' It is too wonderful a work to lose from the repertory, but some kind of revision is definitely necessary.
The problems that Weber attributed to Oberon's libretto are universally recognized as hindering an opera that contains some of the composer's best music.

In relatively recent years, however, he has also come to the fore with his many concertos and concertante works, his songs, and his piano pieces - but somehow or other his symphonies have lagged sadly behind.
Hence he was born much earlier than one always thinks; he is truly at the cross-roads of two musical currents.
But even at this age he knew his own mind, as he did later in Dresden: he knew exactly how he wanted the music to be played and the orchestra to be seated - in other words, no kow-towing to dear old routine.
