 InternetEd Reviews: Hypocrisy- Catch 22
Hypocrisy is a twisted Swedish black/death metal band that has managed to put out some of the heaviest metal records known to man. Very few extreme music artists are capable of mixing melody and brutality while keeping the dark atmosphere of their sound intact the way Peter Tagtgren and crew have done.
Infusing massive riffs and precise melodies, "On The Edge Of Darkness" is a great song in a style not heard from the band since the brilliant The Final Chapter record, and "A Public Puppet" is an excellent extreme metal song with some deviously syncopated rhythms.
Though Catch 22 is not Hypocrisy's single finest work, it is still one of their best, ranking up there with Abducted and The Final Chapter for its usage of sheer brutality with gripping melodic darkness.

Unfortunately, the band's future was in jeopardy after the release of the...Fillmore album.
During this time, the band was in the process of signing a record deal with MegaForce.
Glen Alvalais, who was previously in the band in 1993 on Return To The Apocalyptic City, was acquired to play on tour for the live material.

Shellac - 1000 Hurts (Touch and Go)
As Shellac fans, we all already are familiar with the nerd/tough-ass dyad that exists in the band, and I think that most of us feel that the tension between these two reactive elements is what makes their music so fun to listen to.
Shellac is a band whose members are famous for being super tough nerds.
Most likely, the tough ass would utterly destroy the nerd, and 1000 Hurts would be the most pure rock and roll Shellac album ever, probably sacrificing the intellectual side of their music for animalistic brutality.

Hartford Advocate: A Return to Brutality
The band had watered down their unrelenting trademark brutality for nu-metal radio-friendly sounds, and even a guest vocal by Cypress Hill's B-Real, who is very cool but, let's face it, not metal.
The band's turn for the commercial was especially suspect coming on the heels of their prior album, the band's best-selling to date,
Though Fear Factory's blend of industrial beats, synths, with metal and hardcore elements, and both shouted and sung vocals may not be unique today, the band stood out for these elements in the early 90s, when grunge and modern rock dominated commercially, and the metal underground was all about the Satan-loving brutal death metal.

 Metallian.com - Cadaver
After one album as Cadaver Inc. the band resurfaced in 2004 again as Cadaver, this time on Candlelight Records.
Cadaver has never been linear and Necrosis is strictly recommended for those who can take a cornucopia of sounds atop the brutality.
That itself is a tradition of sorts for this band and the 2004 release does not intend to be different.

Still, brutality is the band's forte, something driven home on the superb "Limbs of a Stare", an expertly executed exercise in prototypal black metal.
This band will be one to watch for in a couple of albums' time.
When the band wavers from the formula, the results are more middling, but a song like "Cellos For the Insatiable" possesses a memorable enough chorus to make up for the lack of musical flash.

 VH1.com : Danzig : Biography
Their self-titled debut found Danzig playing the Satanic metal singer role to the hilt, even if the band's songs sounded much the same.
Danzig II: Lucifuge followed in 1990, and it broadened the band's musical palette, expanding on the simple blues riffs of the debut with more extensive forays into that style.
The band broke through into the mainstream in 1993, when a live video for "Mother," a song originally released on Danzig, became an inescapable smash on MTV and even charted as a single, nearly cracking the Billboard Top 40.

Arsis - A Diamond for Disease Music Review sputnikmusic
Arsis is an experience of throat-clenching brutality, mind-boggling musical skill, and awe-inspiring melodies.
This is what Arsis does to me. Their melodic influences are not enough to distinguish them from the huge rabble of metal bands out there.
Saying Arsis is better than Gothenburg bands or vice-versa is all opinion, but saying that Arsis is a generic, reptitive band is basically downright false.

 MACABRE "Dahmer"
Since MACABRE can't be compared to any other band, it certainly feels refreshing to listen to "Dahmer", The vocal assault also shows variety and fits just right; guttural vocals, maniac in agony-like vocals and normal, punk-like vocals in some tracks.
More interesting is the way they bring all these elements together in such perfect way creating musical variety, and turning their musical prowess into power, originality and brutality.
I had lost track of this band since the magnificent "Sinister slaughter" and this DAHMER is truly a great comeback, just in case some dumbass doesn't known who JEFFREY DAHMER was, he might have been the last great serial killer of the 20th century.

 REVIEWS S
SABBAT prove that classical Metal songwriting still can bring about much more power than many other bands of today are trying to do by megabrutal blastbeat attacks and sheer brutality.
This is a really good, talented underground band that managed to create 31 minutes filled with intelligent and conclusive song structures, a raw and very traditional feeling, and enough tempo variation (from fast blasting to crushing mid-tempo) to keep the album still interesting after the tenth time listening.
But with all respect to the band's musical qualities I still gotta say that I personally probably wouldn't listen to this album very often as everything sounds a bit too safe and wellknown for my taste.

NEW Goth Metal World - your gate to the dark side - ThanatoSchizO
Listening to "Schizo Level" (which was released in July 2001), the prevailing idea is that the band managed to reach a level where melody and brutality are successfully connected and different styles (from brutal death to atmospheric avant-garde metal, joining raw black metal with some psychedelic rock) are gathered.
This was specially felt after the band was considered to having released one of the best international albums of 1999.
Thanatos reached the 11th position (ahead bands such as Dimmu Borgir, Immortal and Primordial) in a list of twenty and were the third best Portuguese band.

Combine these accomplishments with constant touring, and the fact that the band had only been around for a year and a half when these accomplishments were made, and you can plainly see that Trauma Concept is unarguably one of the hardest working bands out there.

Though he's quick to point out that Swans are a collaborative effort involving all band members (Gira: vocals and writing; Jarboe: vocals and keyboards; Norman Westberg: guitars; Al Kyzis: bass; Ted Parsons: drums), the band is essentially his-which means without him they wouldn't exist.
This dubious badge of achievement was earned by Swans, the all-time champs of the Sonic Brutality Index (defined as the inverse ratio between decibels produced and the area of the room enclosing them).
Swans happened in about '82, and appeared to be the sonic embodiment of Gira's rage.

Virus has renewed the band’s style in many ways, not only alternating very varied compositions in terms of tempo and melodies, but also adding some brutality with the integration of Horgh behing the skins, who has introduced virtuosity in blastbeating to the Hypocrisy style.
After this introduction, the band continues with an unexpected track: Carved up that is in fact a transition towards Abducted and is the only song they played off of Roswell 47 (Lyon 47 today), that Hypocrisy reserved for the end of the set.
