 Broadway theatre
Both musicals and stage plays on Broadway and in their respective tours often rely on casting well-known performers in leading roles to draw larger audiences or bring in new audience members to the theatre.
The performances from Broadway musicals on the telecast have also been cited as vital to the survival of many Broadway shows.
In 2003, musicians in the orchestra pit of Broadway musicals went on strike to protest producers plans to replace them with a "virtual orchestra."

 George Davis
The Broadways started having serious problems with lead singer, Billy Brown, failing to dub the lead on their first release and the company let them go and gave the song to another Jersey group called, The Moments, and the big hit, "Not On The Outside", was born.
They began working on their first release and were spending a lot of time in the studio.
Weekends were reserved for a vocal group known as The Fabulous Broadways, who were backed by a 4-piece band that featured a 270 lb.

In Music We Trust - Lawrence Arms, The: A Guided Tour of Chicago
The sound is similar to the Broadways, due to the fact its core songwriting team is the same (Brendan and Chris).
What you get with the Lawrence Arms is the same thing you got with the Broadways: quick, sharp punk rock that focused on political issues and went non-stop from the first guitar chord to the final drum beat.
Though, the melodic sense coupled with the harsh punk and political take on life, which the Broadways were all about, seems to be lacking here.

Brenden Kelly was definetly not the only singer in the broadways, as it is quite clear that both the other front men sang songs to, with Dan Hanaway only singing one or two less than Brenden, so you could barely call him the lead singer, never mind the only one.
But while the lawrence arms first album wasn't amazing, ghost stories and apathy were just as good as the broadways, there new album, the greatest story ever told is better than the broadways.
It's listening to albums like this that make you feel bad for people that only listen to that shit on the radio and don't bother branching out.

But I’ll be hard-pressed to find a band that could write socially-conscious melodic punk songs as great as the Chicago four-piece The Broadways.
First things first, this band has three singers and none of them can sing all too well (save perhaps for the drummer), and none of them are very proficient with their instruments either.
Very true, but attribute this to cocky east coasters who cream their pants when the words kid dynamite are ushered out, but refuse to even listen to bands like the Broadways or Slapstick.

If you can't stand punk, you still can't go wrong, because of the excellent lyrics, and great artwork the CD contains.

The lyrics are more political, which is not a trademark of their later CDs (though not as political as the Broadways were).
This CD came out a less than a year after the Broadways broke up, and it the songwriting seems as if Brendan had written them around the Broadways era.
