Not that Brian was controlling in an unhealthy way (like Mimi and Yoko were, methinks), but he did manage the lives of the Beatles and they trusted and loved him, John especially.
I can understand why Brian didn't want people to see it -- unfortunately, his control of the show was mandated by the time he had listened to bad contractual advice on merchandising and distribution of the boys' image, and he only retained this type of control in the UK.

One of the most interesting of these is Epstein's last recorded interview with Murray the K in America where the manager seems highly drugged while talking about Jimi Hendrix.
This BBC documentary about the notorious manager of the Fab Four, a man whom Paul McCartney calls "The Fifth Beatle," is not quite as enlightening and detailed as one might hope.

 The break with Epstein
Under the management of Brian Epstein, The Rustiks began recording with DECCA on 21st July 1964 and on the 4th September their debut single 'What a memory can do,' is released.
On the 20th October Brian Epstein announces 'I shall also be recording one of my own groups, The Rustiks, independently for DECCA.' The Rustiks broadcast only once for the BBC.
Their contracts with Epstein- the Beatles boss- have not been renewed.

A handwritten letter from Sir Paul McCartney and a Christmas card illustrated by John Lennon are among a collection of items owned by Beatles manager Brian Epstein to be auctioned this week.
The guitar owned by Presley's guitarist Scotty Moore is expected to fetch up to £35,000.
Other items in the collection include a rare assortment of black and white Beatles photographs and a copy of Epstein's birth certificate.
