Boards of Canada - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Titled Boc Maxima, it was a semi-private release that is notable for being a full-length album.
Boards of Canada's unique sound is a product of their strong use of analogue equipment, mix of instrumental and synthetic sounds, use of often unrecognizably distorted samples, use of live and radio or film lyrics, and their layering and blending of these elements.
Boards of Canada have remixed a number of artists' songs.

Boards of Canada: Music Has the Right to Children: Pitchfork Review
Boards of Canada's sound was not wholly original.
Boards of Canada had released some singles and two EPs previous to this record's release, material which showed that they'd already developed their sound.
Boards of Canada tapped into the collective unconscious of those who grew up in the English speaking West and were talented enough to transcribe the soundtrack.

Remastered re-release of an early, limited Boards Of Canada release, this nine track mini album is available on CD for the first time, seven years after its original vinyl only release.
Board of Canada's discography is a source of consternation for their fans.
While not as adventuresome as those records, this EP is still Boards Of Canada all the way, as ample chunks of the band's unsettling and deeply involving style are easily found in songs like "Smokes Quantity" and the title track.

Browse by Artist: BOARDS OF CANADA
Boards of Canada are the Scottish-based duo of Mike Sandison and Marcus Eoin and this record is one of the definitive melancholic IDM cloud-floaters of it's generation.
"Boards of Canada withdrew from society four years ago after the release of their classic album Music Has the Right to Children.
Boards of Canada's emerging reputation for beautiful melodies has taken an infamous new turn, with rumours about their use of embedded messages in their recordings and live visuals."

 Melancholy Machines, by Erik Davis
I suspect BoC's rural imagination lends their music some of its visionary isolation, as well as explaining why so many tracks are covered with the greasy fingerprints of noise, warble, and hiss.
Boards of Canada's Music Has the Right to Children
Music Has The Right to Children, the debut album from the Scottish electronic duo Boards of Canada, is as sweet a work of electronic melancholia as you are likely to hear, proof positive, as any were still necessary, that all those knobs and gadgets can indeed capture complex emotional hues.

'Geogaddi' is the second album from Boards Of Canada and follows on from their 1998 release 'Music Has The Right To Children'.
Geogaddi follows on from Boards Of Canada debut album, 1998's Music Has The Right To Children, a real slow-burner that gently infused its way into the consciousness like a rolling fog of sepia-tinged psychedelia and child-like lullaby melodies.
BOC's long-awaited second album Geogaddi opens with no fanfare, the bare hum of "Ready Lets Go" blossoming into the soporific, hypnotic chimes of "Music Is Math".

Blogcritics.org: Eagerly Anticipating Boards of Canada's The Campfire Headphase
Boards of Canada's albums are designed as wonderfully cohesive and organic soundtracks to imaginary movies (Geogaddi being an intricate overture suited for a haunting, through-the-looking-glass type adventure), so a repeat performance is about as likely a director remaking one of his own films.
I really enjoyed BOC's first two albums and while I thought they were almost due for a new album, I'm glad that it's finally coming this fall.
As if becoming the musical equivalent of Thomas Pynchon, Board of Canada's psychedelic dreamworld has generated a certain amount of folklore amongst those whose curiosity has been entranced as much as their imagination.

 BOARDS OF CANADA Geogaddi
With this sixth album under their belt, Boards Of Canada are proving to be one of the most consistent electronic bands currently serving as their dedication to sound remains untouched.
When Warp Records and Skam jointly released the seminal Music Has The Right To Children, Scottish duo Boards Of Canada were still largely unknown despite having released four albums and a string of EPs on their Music70 label.
This album became pivotal in the tiny world of IDM by the way it offered an alternative to Autechre’s increasingly complex records and Plaid’s more upbeat releases.

The History of Rock Music. Boards Of Canada: biography, discography, reviews, links
The EP Hooper Bay (MUsic 70, 1994), whose extended compositions are Seward Leaf, Noatak and Point Hope, heralded their mature phase, which yielded the 20 ambient tracks of the album Boc Maxima (MUsic 70, 1995), particularly the melancholy Everything You Do Is A Balloon and their early masterpiece Turquoise Hexagon Sun.
After the EP Twoism (Music 70, 1996 - Warp, 2002), the best tracks of the early years were reprised on Hi Scores (Skam, 1996) and revealed the duo to a broader audience.
Acid Memories (Music70, 1989) is even less imposing, as are the 17 short pieces of Closes Volume 1 (Music70, 1993 - Music70, 1997), but Play By Numbers (Music 70, 1994), with the 9-minute Infinite Lines Of Colourful Sevens, showcased a more creative approach.
