Blues Traveler tightened its songs further for four, yielding a pop hit in the Latiny swirl of "Run-Around." "Hook," "Price to Pay" and the Dead- like "Stand" are also fully realized compositions, in which the solos serve the song rather than the other way around.
Their music was, and is, more about chops than songs; fortunately, they're all exciting players, and the weapon-packing Popper's harmonica virtuosity — he brings a guitarist's sensibility to the instrument, which makes him more utilitarian than simply a soloist — is a source of endless delights.
One of the unforeseen pop music movements of the late '80s was a passel of bands that decided to do something about the absence of improvisatory jamming, a feature that had faded out of rock's mainstream along with summer festivals after the mid-'70s.

Blues Traveler could have called this album "Live from the Studio." That's how much energy there is on this album.
Though Blues Traveler's 1990 debut gets docked points for having foisted on the world a "jam band" scene whose white funk-boogie reprised some of the worst excesses and stifling professionalism of '70s rock, it's hard to write the album off as simply a bunch of aimless displays of improvisational chops.
With their debut album, Blues Traveler has successfully captured the energy and thrust of a live performance.

 Blues Traveler: Bridge (2001): Reviews
On Bridge, they're still traveling down the long and winding improvisational road, with most of the tracks averaging around five minutes in length (as is true with most of their studio albums).
It may sound different, but all the aspects of what Blues Traveler represents from lyrics to musicianship, is still there.
I think it's sad that we live in a time where faggity ass boy bands, pseudo-breasted pop star wanna-be girls who can't sing and sucky ass bands such as Match Box 20 and that God forsaken band The Offspring are considered artists who produce good music.

 Blues Traveler
Blues Traveler is a band that has gone through enormous growing pains since it first burst onto the scene in 1990 with its self-titled debut.
And perhaps it was those growing pains and the stress from the continual touring and recording schedule, that ultimately lead to the most serious growing pain of all: the 1999 death of original bassist Bobby Sheehan of a drug overdose, during a self-imposed hiatus from touring.
Wilson said that the new line-up has given the band a new dynamic and is ultimately resulting in a happier Blues Traveler.

Then with the release of its latest studio album, "Four," in 1994, Blues Traveler vaulted into the mainstream, mainly on the strength of one song, the catchy, upbeat "Run Around," about a relationship gone sour.
But the song, which won a Grammy, is only vaguely representative of Blues Traveler's roots-rock sound and longer jams, for which the band first gained a small but loyal neo-hippie following and a reputation as a young Grateful Dead.
