Blackwater Park - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Blackwater Park is Opeth's fifth album, released under KOCH Records in 2001.
There is also a special two-cd release of Blackwater Park, containing an extra CD with two bonus tracks and a video clip of "Harvest".
Several of the songs in this album feature "telephone vocals", an effect which is common in Steven Wilson's music, who helped to produce Blackwater Park.

Metal Refuge Review: Opeth - Blackwater Park
From the opening crescendo of "The Leper Affinity" to the lingering guitar melody of the album's closer "Blackwater Park", Swedish metal band Opeth pulls out all the stops in the epic album Blackwater Park.
The underground legends bring a mix of energy, emotion, musicality, and lyrical genius to the table in this, their 5th studio album.
Then with the transition into the ferocious sound of the double bass and moving guitar licks coupled with the raw, growling vocals, the song hits you like a ton of bricks.

That was their recipe for "Blackwater Park," an album that, by turns, both induces trances and (as in the case with the opening of the song "Bleak") rocks irresistably.
"Blackwater Park" is an album that will live forever among metalheads, even though Opeth broke many of the inviolate rules of metal to accomplish it.
Opeth's lyrics are every bit as enthralling as their music.

"Blackwater Park," sometimes one of my favorite songs on the album.
Blackwater Park is an excellent album to start off with if you are thinking of giving Opeth a chance.

Opeth - Satan Stole My Teddybear
The album is significantly more aggressive than Blackwater Park ("Deliverance" in particular), and Åkerfeldt grunts quite a bit more than he has in recent memory.
Opeth has proven with their last three releases that their songwriting consists of their aforementioned formula and that they are simply stuck in a rut.
The songs presented on Blackwater Park do very little to engage listeners beyond some very pretty or intriguing passages.

Blackwater Park, the band's fifth release, is their fifth amazing album.
No band has ever captivated my imagination and love for music the way this band has, and Blackwater Park is the album that started it all.
Without a doubt, Blackwater Park is full of crashing guitars and brutal growls, yet Opeth balances with melodic acoustic passages and vocal deliveries with icy beauty.

One listen to Blackwater Park (Their first album to be released in the U.S. thanks to the fine folks at Koch Entertainment) and it is easy to see where all the hype came from, in fact it’s not hype at all but well placed praise.
Blackwater Park is an album of Epic proportions that can easily be called a modern metal masterpiece.
But by far the most impressive elements to this band and album is the musicianship, instrumentation and the composition.

 Amazon.co.uk: Music: Blackwater Park
'Blackwater Park' has to be their best release to date. The opening song 'The Leper Affinity' is probably the best track on the album as it has heavy and melodic metal parts, relaxing acoustic parts, and a lovely piano solo to finish.
Blackwater Park: Well, this just finishes off the album perfectly, some awesome riffs and a soft acoustic part makes you think that this is not gonna get heavy, you're damn wrong, some heavy ass riffs come into play, one of the best songs on the album.
Other stand out tracks are 'Bleak', 'The Funeral Portrait', and 'Blackwater Park', the title track.

Luna Kafé - Opeth: Blackwater Park
Blackwater Park has been co-produced by Opeth and Porcupine Tree's Steven Wilson, who also provides some additional vocals, guitar and a lovely piano outro to the opening track.
Most of their songs contain both the aggressive, crunching guitar riffs with the typical death metal "cookie monster" vocals, and the more subtle approach of acoustic guitars with "clean" vocals - the latter providing a beautiful, melancholic counterpoint to the former.
Because of the beautiful "breathing spaces" in Opeth's music, Blackwater Park might be a very good place to start if you're interested in getting into some of the more extreme music that's out there.

 Opeth - Blackwater Park
The structures are twisted and weird yet, with oddities as "Patterns in the ivy", a very short acoustic track, or "Blackwater park", a dark-psychodelic long song that carries us into another state of mind.
But not only the calm fragments of the songs are great, the death metal is still present and it´s more inspired than in the previous "Still life", in my humble opinion.
I can say the vocal arrangements are better than ever, conforming a mature album in its true sense of the word, if you like that kind of descriptions.

With "Blackwater Park," Opeth has released their fifth straight excellent album - and their first two albums should now be counted on the short list of metal's all-time greats.
Musically, "Blackwater Park" mixes the heavier sounds and production of "My Arms Your Hearse" and "Still Life" with the reflective moments and jazz textures of "Morningrise." The piano, played by guest musician Steven Wilson, is more prominent than on any album since "Orchid" and is a welcome addition to the mix.

Like all Opeth LPs, Blackwater Park is divided not so much into songs as "movements," as the band likes to call them.
As for more experienced Opeth disciples, few will disagree with the fact that, even compared to lofty prior achievements, Blackwater Park is surely the band's coming-of-age album, and therefore, an ideal introduction to its remarkable body of work.
With all this in mind, singling out specific highlights is pretty much a futile exercise; but for the benefit of first-time listeners, why not start out with the colossal, Arabian-flavored riffs of "Bleak," the memorable chorus of "The Drapery Falls," the surprisingly gentle intro of "Dirge for November," and, finally, the all-encompassing title track.

village voice > music > Blessed By The Night: The Dark Metal Compilation; Opeth, Blackwater Park by Erik Davis
Despite delightful eruptions of atonality and old-school prog moves, many songs here are more repetitious and conventionally structured, and so wear their length less justifiably than on 1999's amazing Still Life.
After twisting and turning through a fistful of angry riffs, "The Leper Affinity" ends with the man on the grand piano, tinkling out rainy day ruminations that simply drift away to a diminished end.
While the 11-minute "The Drapery Falls" starts out with catchy choruses and lots of acoustic strumming, the tune gets twisted after the five-minute mark, with ice-cave vocals, crazy Frippertronics, and manic beats from the two Uruguayans named Martin who back up Åkerfeldt and guitarist Peter Lindfren on bass and drums.
