 Björk, Carl Axel -
Björk was the child of an unmarried seamstress in Stockholm and an unknown man. When his mother died he was four years old and went to live in an orphanage for two and a half years before being fostered by a farming family in Blekinge.
He went to sea at an early age and wound up in New Zealand when he was 29, where he stayed for the rest of his life.
