Bill Haley & His Comets - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Bill Haley and His Comets was a rock and roll band that was founded in the 1950s and continued until Haley's death in 1981.
Bandleader Bill Haley had previously been a country performer; after recording a country and western-styled version of "Rocket 88", a rhythm and blues song, he changed musical direction to a new sound called rock and roll.
When Elvis Presley recorded the song in 1956, he combined Haley's arrangement with Turner's original lyrics but failed to score a subtantial hit.

 Bill Haley tribute
Bill Haley had made his mark on music and generations of rockers would tell stories of how they were influenced by this seemingly innocent country and western star from Detroit.
Bill Haley, who performed on the revival circuit throughout the Sixties and Seventies, saw his signature song become a U.S. hit for the second time when "Rock Around the Clock" appeared on the 1974 soundtrack for American Graffiti and the hit TV show Happy Days.
Haley began his recording career in 1951 when he led a small country and western band.

 BillHaley Biography
For most of the Fifties, Haley was a presence on the record charts with and in teen-oriented movies.
The band was called The Saddlemen and their first record was a version of the rhythm and blues hit "Rocket 88" and prefigured Haley's later style, an amaigam of country, the blues and pop influences.
A year later the band recorded their first hit, "Crazy Man Crazy." In 1955, bandleader Bill Haley and His Comets recorded a landmark rock and roll song, "(We're Gonna) Rock Around the Clock," which held down the number one spot for eight weeks and went on to sell 41 million copies worldwide.

RAB Hall of Fame: Bill Haley
The little boy would be named William John Clifton Haley, but one day he would become the musical legend known as Bill Haley, and with his Comets, he would rock the concert halls of the world with the thunder of his sound and the glory of his music.
The book lists over 400 titles that were recorded and released by Bill Haley and his musicians over a period of forty years, The vocals were sometimes done by other artists, but the back up was Bill's Comets or one of his earlier country-western bands.
True to Bill's prediction, John Grande, being the only musician who could read music, became the chief arranger and recorder of most of their new material.

"EXTRA!" Page 1 / Bill Haley and the Comets
This spring marks the 50th anniversary of Bill Haley and the Saddlemen recording "Rock the Joint" for Essex Records, the song that became their first hit rock and roll record and, in the opinion of many, helped give the name to the music.
For Bill Haley fans, the show is significant as "Rock Around the Clock" was used as the theme song for the first couple of years, until Pratt and McClain's "Happy Days" became a huge hit and replaced the venerable oldie.
Lane's drumming work with Haley was a highlight of a live album The Comets recorded in Sweden in 1968, and Lane was a popular member of the band during his tenure with Haley.

Bill Haley - and friends - Merry Christmas CD
For many Bill Haley fans, the main reason for buying this album will be to obtain two of the rarest Bill Haley and the Saddlemen sides in existence.
"A collection of 18 tracks featuring Bill Haley, his bands and associates on a collection of Christmas songs.
Due to their rarity, the best Hydra could come up with is a VERY scratchy 78, rendering the two tracks difficult to listen to....."

Bill Haley & his Comets Revival
Bill returned to Pennsylvania to start working as a disc jockey at the WPWA radio station where he founded his first band, The Four Aces of Western Swing, followed by The Saddlemen.
During the following year, Bill Haley raised his popularity among a fast-growing audience of young people with his composition of Crazy Man Crazy - a song which used the slogans of these teenagers and subsequently became his first nation-wide hit.
The Kentucky- born father inspired his son from a very early age to the numerous facets of Country and Western music: hillbilly, yodeling, the singing cowboys, as well as the western swing.

Haley was also the first rock & roll artist to tour overseas (something Elvis never did), which he continued all the way up till the end of his career.
Haley never recorded Rock A Beatin' Boogie till an album on Decca in the late 50's, though he had written it much earlier.

 29¢ Bill Haley
A few years earlier, Bill Haley and the Comets had started out as Bill Haley's Saddlemen, recording a number of obscure Hillbilly tunes before switching to Rock 'n' Roll.
An unlikely hero to a generation of young rockers, Bill Haley recorded numerous other memorable songs, including See You Later, Alligator, Shake, Rattle and Roll and Skinny Minnie.
By the time his second film, Don't Knock the Rock, made it to the big screen in 1957, Elvis Presley occupied the throne of crown prince of rock.

 Bill Haley Biography
Haley joined the group and even at this early stage was talking about combining country and pop music.
The 'Four Aces' disbanded in mid '49 and Haley formed a new band, 'The Saddlemen' which in turn was ultimately to become the very first rock and roll band in history, the 'Comets'.
In 1948, Bill released his first records on the 'Cowboy' label with his backing group the 'Four Aces of Western Swing', made up of Al Constantine (Accordion), Barney Barnard (bass) and Tex King (guitar)

 Rock Around the Clock Tribute
Haley records a rather laid-back version in a Sonet recording studio in Sweden.
As no recording of Haley performing "Clock" during his 1980 South Africa tour is now known to exist (contrary to earlier belief), this is the last known recorded performance of the song by Haley.
In early 1954, Haley finally broke away from Essex and Bill Haley and His Comets were booked for an April 12, 1954 recording session at a converted ballroom in downtown New York called the Pythian Temple, which was used by Decca to record some of its top acts.

Live On Stage, Bill Haley And His Comets Revival
Of course, Bill's biggest "Rock Around The Clcok", the famous movie theme hitrecord from "Blackboard Jungle", couldn't be left out, and the revival band does a great job, even on a very well known song like this one.
This is the kind of music that gets the audience on their feet, just like in the original Bill Haley movie "Rock Around The Clock".
A CD release of the band's wild, acrobatic and comic live show was long overdue.
