In October 1997 Lynn performed the world première of Kleine Suite from "Kein Platz für Idioten", written for her by Austrian composer Wolfgang Pillinger, and in December 1997 she performed the European première in Salzburg at Schloss Leopoldskron during the Salzburg Seminar on "Music for a New Millennium".
She was the first bassoonist ever to perform a solo recital in the Concert Hall of the Kennedy Center, and has been featured there as soloist nine times.

DR V1.2: A FRENCH BASSOONIST IN THE UNITED STATES
Shortly thereafter, the director, having decided to found a symphony orchestra and lacking a bassoonist suggested that Mesnard drop violin and take up the bassoon.
Concerts Rouge was really a left bank cafe, one of the first to include in its program serious classical music.
His next position was with Orchestra Lamoureux to replace the absent second bassoonist on the orchestra's trip to London in May of 1899.

 Laurence Perkins - bassoonist
Entirely unaltered from Rachmaninov's original, this wonderful melody illustrates perfectly the vocal qualities of the bassoon's sound.
A real bassoonist's warhorse ever since the legendary Archie Camden recorded it on a 78rpm disc in the 1920s!
One of the great figures in British light music, Gilbert Vinter was also a fine bassoonist, and these wonderfully characterful, picture-painting pieces display his obvious affection for the instrument.

 Laurence Perkins - bassoonist
Everything - even the most technical aspects of playing - was approached from an entirely musical angle, and it was exactly what his green young student needed!
My enthusiasm for the bassoon did not stop at orchestral playing, and in 1978 I decided to make my own solo record - literally!
This broadcast led to my appointment a year later as Principal Bassoonist in Manchester Camerata, and it was with this fine group of players that I learned the joys of playing in a chamber orchestra and the fantastic repertoire for smaller orchestral forces.

 CATHOLIC ENCYCLOPEDIA: Sigismond Thalberg
From this step he was saved by the early discovery of his musical genius through Mittag, the Viennese bassoonist.
Devoting himself in good earnest to music, of which he had acquired some knowledge from Mittag, he studied theory under Sechter and pianoforte technic under Hummel.
While yet a boy, at the Polytechnic Institute of the Austrian capital, Thalberg formed a friendship with the young Duc de Reichstadt (popularly known as L'Aiglon), who so fired his imagination with the vision of military glory that he was upon the point of entering that career.

 Dorian Wind Quintet's New Bassoonist
At 10, he joined the school band on the clarinet, and at 12 he began studying the bassoon with Maurice Pachman, principal bassoonist of the Radio City Music Hall Orchestra.
Ethan began his instrumental studies at the age of 8 on the piano and the recorder.
In addition to symphony and chamber concerts, he has performed as a regular guest artist with many of the opera, ballet and Broadway musical orchestras in the area including New York City Ballet, New York City Opera and American Ballet Theatre.

Symphony bassoonist remembered fondly - PittsburghLIVE.com
Leonard Sharrow had long been one of America's most important orchestral musicians when joined the Pittsburgh Symphony as principal bassoonist in 1977.
During his 50-year career, Sharrow also was the first-chair bassoonist for Arturo Toscanini in the NBC Symphony and Fritz Reiner in the Chicago Symphony, not to mention several other major orchestras.
Nevertheless, Sharrow said Reiner "was never hard on those who could play.

DR V6.3: Bassoonist's News of Interest
Mark Eubanks, adjunct professor of woodwinds and principal bassoonist with the Oregon Symphony, acquired the gift for the School of Music.
According to David Debolt of Kent State, Gallandre-Lebhar played principal bassoon in the Birmingham (Alabama) Symphony from the 1950's until 1962 on a French-system instrument.
Two recordings by bassoonists have been recently brought to my attention, and I pass the information on to you.

 JNL12: Adolph Weiss: composer/bassoonist
Pierre Monteux proved to be a very good friend, not only by performing my Theme and Variations with the symphony, but by demanding that I be retained as bassoonist when the Union required that the former bassoonist, who had been on leave on a job elsewhere, should return to his former post.
The report concludes with a list of his compositions up to 1957.
The enigma continues even now in the years following his death, for despite his years of music study with Arnold Schoenberg and his prolific compositional output, his works are little known beyond his circle of colleagues and friends and rarely if ever performed.

DR V3.1: ANGEL DEL BUSTO, (BASSOONIST), A MUSICAL MASTER FROM PUERTO RICO
The following article describing the career of a most interesting bassoonist, was originally contributed by his friend Sol Schoenbach of Philadelphia.
Del Busto left the firehouse band to enlist as bugler and bassoonist in the Banda de Musica del Antiguo Regimiento de Infanteria de Puerto Rico (a Puerto Rican infantry band), under the direction of maestro Luis R. Miranda.
In 1952, he returned under contract to occupy the chair of solo bassoonist in the Savannah Symphony Orchestra, alternating as conductor of the group until his retirement some years ago.

 Bassoon
Bassoonists are sometimes called upon to play solo passages that seem impossible at first...
Check here for other instruments in the double-reed family.

 Franz Schubert
Fortunately, he did not lack for an orchestra with which to try out new compositions—the Schuberts had long maintained a string quartet en famille, which could be augmented from time to time by the collaboration of friends playing other instruments.
In the autumn of 1814, the conductor, bassoonist and violinist Otto Hatwig took over direction of this ad hoc ensemble and moved the performances into his own home.

 Paul Hanson - Jazz Bassoonist
I've been asked countless times by bassoonists and other musicians - "What was that you were playing?" and "How did you do that?" This book represents both the WHAT and the HOW for techniques for jazz improvisation for bassoon.

 Guest Book Entries
I love the sound of bassoon, and I would to know so much abt it, and learn how to play a proper bassoon.
I am currently a high school senior, but I really hope to continue playing once I am in college even though I don't plan on majoring in music.
This web page of mine has been up for over 7 years and is the best advertising I have done in 45 years in the reed business.

 Records International Catalogue August 1998
Gebauer was one of five talented brothers; he was a bassoonist himself (and wrote 13 concertos for his instrument).
Whereas Reicha's many quintets can seem like symphonies in transcription, Gebauer's three quintets (from the 1820s) are in concertante style with plenty of opportunites for virtuoso display and unexpected tonal colors and instrumental combinations.

 General Music
This concise, straightforward handbook by the renowned conductor and bassoonist Arthur Weisberg is the first practical manual to address the performance problems specific to twentieth-century music.
The author, a renowned bassoonist, has written this book because of his concern that winds lack the traditions and the consistent pedagogy of string and keyboard instruments.
The focus is on understanding and performing twentieth century rhythms, metric modulations, the basics on conducting these rhythms, and preparing the score.

TWB V3.3: MONUMENT TO A NOTED BASSOONIST IMRE WEIDINGER
I do not know if there is another place in the world where there is a monument of a bassoonist.
As a matter of fact, this unfortunate artist was blind; you will observe this looking at one of the enclosed 3 pictures.
In the city of Pècs, Hungary, there is a stone monument near the ancient cathedral, erected at the turn of the century, in the memory of a famous local bassoon player, Imre (Emery) Weidinger.

Info on BC and the Encyclopedia of BC
During that time I discovered just how diverse, and fascinating, a place British Columbia is. I read hundreds of books about the province, and still did not exhaust the subject.
I consulted scores of experts on every conceivable aspect of life in BC, from abalone to Nanaimo bars to rum-runners right on through the alphabet to the acclaimed bassoonist George Zukerman.
At the same time I made several excursions up the coast and into the Interior--by car, airplane, ferry and sailboat--visiting smaller communities and exploring the different regions that make up the provincial mosaic.

 Artist James Christensen - Bassoonist
This image, like Piscatorial Percussionist and Serenade for an Orange Cat, depicts one of my ornate costumes.
If you look closely, you'll see this is not your everyday bassoon, and the bassoonist isn't ordinary, either.
Note how our hero has adapted: he has eleven fingers -.
