JIMI HENDRIX / AXIS: BOLD AS LOVE
Axis: Bold as Love covers a nearly cosmic spectrum of sounds, violating musical conventions, and defying what was once thought possible in the realm of the electric guitar and recorded music.
Axis: Bold as Love was a mind blowing journey through the uncharted sounds and emotions of an artist sharing his pure soul.
It still has one of the all-time best endings of any album, with the title track "Bold As Love" closing out the record in a sweeping climax.

Comment: Unfairly consigned to the history books as the follow-up to "Are You Experienced?" and little else, "Axis: Bold as Love" is actually an eclectic and electrifying album.
Comment: 'axis:bold as love' is far too often overlooked as a major triumph by the experience in favour of 'are you experienced' and 'electric ladyland'.
I especially enjoy Bold as Love (Which finishes the album on an incredible high), Wait until tommorow and of course little Wing.

Tower Records - Axis: Bold As Love [Remaster] - The Jimi Hendrix Experience
This 1997 reissue of AXIS: BOLD AS LOVE is a newly remastered version that restores the original album artwork.
AXIS: BOLD AS LOVE was the follow-up to ARE YOU EXPERIENCED?, and represented a much more conscious use of the recording studio's possibilities.
Where his live shows continued to showcase the raw rocking power of the Experience, the recording studio gave Hendrix the composer/arranger a broader palette.

Axis: Bold As Love was the Jimi Hendrix Experience's second album following on from them mightly successful Are You Experienced, and whilst it may not be as recognised as some of the later works, it remains a must have for any Hendrix fan.
Basically I'll admit from the outset this is my favourite album of all time.
This album, like many of those by the great man, has some utterly unmissable songs on it - the sort of stuff that anyone who has ever been interested by the sound of a guitar really ought to own.

Tired of the showboating image that his early live performances had saddled him with--and that his black audience viewed as demeaning and degrading to his musical talent--Hendrix dissolved his Experience in 1969 in search of a more terra-firma-grounded, blues-oriented persona.

Axis: Bold as Love - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Axis: Bold as Love is the second album by The Jimi Hendrix Experience, released in 1967 (see 1967 in music).
Following the seminal Are You Experienced, the band delivered another classic, although Axis: Bold As Love is oddly overshadowed by its predecessor and successor (Electric Ladyland).
The recording was made under a pressure of the band's recording deal, according to which the group had to make two albums in year 1967.

 no mainstream
This was the era of psychedelic rock with The Beatle's "Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band" album reaching number one on the charts and Jimi Hendrix Experience had release "Are You Experienced" in 1967 and "Axis Bold As Love" climbing the charts in early 1968.
It was an electric blues sound with hard and fast driving drum beats, whaling guitar and Muddy howlin' the blues with tunes like (I just want to make love to you, I'm your hoochie coochie man and the controversial Rolling Stone's tune Let's spend the night together).
Electric Mud was the first of several albums - Father and Son with Paul Butterfield and Mike Bloomfield; After the Rain; The London Muddy Waters Sessions - targeted to "these so-called hippies" who were fast becoming Muddy's primary record-buying audience.

David Frum Vanity Watch By Timothy Noah
The previous State of the Union is best-remembered for the phrase "axis of evil," which was derived from the phrase "axis of hatred," which Frum coined while working as a White House speechwriter.
Readers of The Right Man, Frum's absorbing memoir of his White House sojourn, will likely spot another subtext: "Karen Hughes messed it up." In his book, Hughes is portrayed as a doltish enemy of bold action and eloquent speech.
"Self-love," saith the Bard, "is not so vile a thing as self-neglecting." Fresh evidence that David Frum has taken Shakespeare's words very much to heart can be found in his comments about last night's State of the Union address.

Compare Prices and Read Reviews on Electric Ladyland [Remaster] - The Jimi Hendrix Experience at Epinions.com
Electric Ladyland begins with a very trippy and experimental number not unlike EXP on Axis: Bold As Love before gently rolling into the soft melody of Have You Ever Been (To Electric Ladyland), with Hendrix singing in an almost falsetto tone of a swirling but restrained guitar piece.
Electric Ladyland wasn’t concerned with singles, though, and each of those songs contribute to an overall mood that makes Ladyland such a beautiful and ethereal album.
Electric Ladyland was another long step forward for Hendrix, the next logical stage in his musical growth.

The band continued its successful ways with the release of two albums in 1968, Axis: Bold as Love and Electric Ladyland, which charted at Number Three and Number One respectively.
Amid creative and personal squabbling, Redding left the Experience in 1969 and started Fat Mattress, who released a self-titled album that year and Fat Mattress 2 in 1970.
Noel Redding, the English bassist best known for playing in the Jimi Hendrix Experience between 1966 and 1969, died yesterday of unknown causes; he was fifty-seven.

Fender Players Club - Jimi Hendrix
His subsequent albums, Axis: Bold as Love and Electric Ladyland further astounded and inspired the rock and blues worlds, and when he broke up the Experience and played Woodstock with the Band of Gypsys, he gave a performance that made history.
He grew up listening to blues records of his Dad’s, taking up guitar in his teens and continuing to play during a stint in the Army.
A legion of guitarists, from rock stars to pre-teens, stopped dead in their tracks, realizing that the rules had suddenly changed.

The first three are the first three Jimi Hendrix Experience records, Are You Experienced?, Axis: Bold as Love and Electric Ladyland.
But they forgot the hysterical "Be forewarned" liner notes from the back sleeve of the U.S. version which, to my mind anyway, are essential to an understanding of the original tongue-in-cheek marketing of Hendrix as exotic but forbidden fruit.
Fortunately, they did include all the music made by the Experience - the first three singles, A-sides and B-sides, plus the first English album - in one package.

Throughout the next year, Hendrix's eclectic psychedelia reached a zenith with two albums, "Axis: Bold as Love" and "Electric Ladyland"- the latter ranks as one of the greatest albums of the rock era.
The band's New Year's Eve concert at the Fillmore East in New York City provided them with material for their first album, "Band of Gypsies" (a second album, titled "Band of Gypsies 2", was discovered and released in 1986).
Several tracks were recorded for the project, but the sessions were sandwiched between tour dates, and, sadly, the album was left unfinished when Hendrix died September 18, 1970.

Dead Meadow: Shivering King and Others: Pitchfork Review
While it was no surprise to find Blue Cheer's Vincebus Eruptum, Jimi Hendrix's Axis: Bold As Love, and Led Zeppelin II in the cinched arms of a creature a few meters below Dead Meadow's remains, it was quite a shock that any group of their time was swallowing and potentially outputting this style of music.
Taking care to remove the crystallized sludge surrounding the prize, he finally saw it-- the skeletal remains of what appeared to be a musically oriented tribe, known as Dead Meadow, if one followed the stencil on the still half buried drum set, huddled around a central egg-crate of ancient vinyl albums and compact discs.
A great boon to his research, Dr. Steere soon discovered that atop the assortment of music was a compact disc produced by Dead Meadow themselves, the group's Brendan Canty-engineered third album, Shivering King and Others.

 An interview with Noel Redding
The album, Axis: Bold As Love followed and the band were at their zenith, although Noel and Mitchell were already beginning to get itchy feet due to the gruelling tour schedules and alleged frictions within the band.
This was at a time when Mod and beat were running their last laps and psychedilia and drug-induced lyrics were in vogue.
The debut album, Are You Experienced, was full of classics, although this was followed by an ill-judged supporting tour with The Monkees, not quite in keeping with the image.

Are You Experienced? by Jimi Hendrix CD
It is commercially their best, and songs like the overplayed Foxy Lady that compile most of their "greatest hits." In all this commotion over Are You Experienced, the amazing, superior guitar-wise "Axis Bold as Love" is being overlooked.
I will recommend it to any music lover.
Mitch Mitchell and Noel Redding blast away with a barely controlled fury, and there's a distorted metallic edge to Hendrix's guitar timbre that has made ARE YOU EXPERIENCED?

One of these, which predates Metal Machine Music by several years, is "E.X.P.," the first song on Axis: Bold as Love by Jimi Hendrix.
The album was a two-record set titled Metal Machine Music and was met with much derision from the record-buying public, who went back to their respective record stores in droves and demanded refunds, claiming the album was "defective." About a year ago [1991], an English record company called Great Expectations re-released Metal Machine Music.
When I bought Metal Machine Music, I knew there was a possibility that I wouldn't like it (but only because of what I had already read about it, which were, after all, simply opinions anyway).
