Atlantic Records (Atlantic Recording Corporation) is an American record label, and a subsidiary of Warner Music Group.
Spark Records (the record label of Jerry Lieber and Mike Stoller) was purchased in November 1955.
Athough it began as an independent record company, it became a major player in the music business in the 1960s, with mainstream pop signings like Sonny and Cher.

Atlantic was one of the first independents to record in stereo, using a portable stereo machine to record multitrack tapes at the same time the mono recordings were being made.
Atlantic was the first to record Professor Longhair, the legendary piano player from New Orleans.
One of the songs "Fess" recorded at his first Atlantic session was "Mardi Gras in New Orleans" which has since become the theme song for the Mardi Gras.

All of the recordings cut on Calla were released on CD in 1999 as "Bluesoul Belles." LaVette recorded for many labels during the 60s and 70s.
LaVette returned to Atlantic Records where the album "Child of the '70s" was cut.
The record, "My Man - He's A Lovin' Man," was only out for a short time before Atlantic Records in New York bought the rights and released it on their label where it became a big soul hit.

Atlantic's more sophisticated and jazz orientated session men were unable to recreate the New Orleans Sound, but in the process created the "Atlantic Sound," which supported all the label's singers with, boogie based, sax-led band arrangements that were internal part of the song.
The first sides were recorded November 21, 1947 by the Harlemaires with "The Rose of the Rio Grande." By the end of December a total of sixty-five songs had been recorded.
With the instrumental playing on a record player Ahmet turned recording machine and sang the lyrics into the microphone as the record played.

The label entered into a partnership with Memphis, Tennessee-based Stax Records and used Stax house band Booker T. and the MGs behind such artists as Otis Redding and Sam and Dave.
Legendary music executive Jerry Wexler, who later joined the group as a partner and produced some of the label's finest records, remembers the Erteguns as part of a band of mutual jazz collectors that included himself, Columbia Records scout and producer John Hammond, and several others, almost all of whom went into the music business.
In 1969 the label released the first album by Led Zeppelin; in 1971 it signed the Rolling Stones to a deal, which created Rolling Stones Records.
