 Ash Ra Tempel
Gottsching has been the band's mainstay through the years and in the 70's it was his guitar that added a unique quality that made Ash Ra Tempel both part of, yet not limited to, the same electronic genre that bands like Tangerine Dream influenced.
Also out are re-releases of the band's 2nd through 5th albums, and in lieu of bonus tracks they have been doubled up on the CD's re-releases.
In 1996, a 6-CD set called "The Private Tapes" was released featuring unreleased studio and live material by Ash Ra Tempel, one of the great pioneers of electronic space music as well as being a great acid rockin' band.

Klaus Schulze (born in 1947) was a percussionist of the psychedelic rock band Psy Free, and also of Tangerine Dream, the band with which he recorded their first album.
The circumstances in which the session that led to the recording of the album was developed were somewhat atypical.
After several concerts, they recorded their first album in 1971, which they called Ash Ra Tempel, released by the label OHR.

Ash Ra Tempel - Friendship - Groove Unlimited
On the Ash Ra Tempel studio album: "Friendship", Gottsching's guitar melodies and Schulze's synths and percussion are together again with an easy going musical jaunt between two comrades now on the same path.
Countless musicians have cited this seminal band as having serious implications in the way their music is made.
Together, on "Friendship", they are found simply enjoying each other's company and music.

They got to work in 1971 and recorded and released their self-entitled debut on Ohr Records (same label Tangerine Dream was recording for).
The original LP of Ash Ra Tempel's debut came with a gimmick cover, not unlike Emerson, Lake & Palmer's Brain Salad Surgery.
A young guitarist named Manuel Göttsching was starting a new band called Ash Ra Tempel, and the two members he got in were bassist Hartmut Enke and Klaus Schulze.

 Ash Ra Tempel
While this is a regular Ash Ra Tempel release, it's a little odd because most of the music on here was recorded after Manuel Goettsching and Hartmut Enke spent an entire day working on a side project with lots of other musicians.
I realize that Join Inn is not the best way to be introduced to the wonders of the Kosmische Rock of Germany's second-trippiest band (the first one, of course, was Tangerine Dream), but unfortunately this is the way I was introduced to their music, and we'll just have to deal with it.
Only the second Ash Ra Tempel album I've heard, and yet another throwaway.

ASH RA TEMPEL Ash Ra Tempel review
This is truly one of the first ASH RA TEMPEL albums you should try, especially because there are no vocals (except for some wordless vocals on "Traummachine" which are rather pleasant).
The original LP on Ohr comes with a fold-out cover, sorta similar to ELP's "Brain Salad Surgery" (but without the diecut), or that obscure late '60s Portland, Oregon act called Touch (the band that recorded for the Coliseum label, that is, as opposed to too many other bands with that name).
— Simply one of the all-time great Krautrock albums, this is the original ASH RA TEMPEL lineup with Manuel Göttsching, Hartmut Enke, and Klaus Schulze (who just left TANGERINE DREAM following the release of "Electronic Meditation").

Ash Ra Tempel : Ash Ra Tempel - Listen, Review and Buy at ARTISTdirect
In light of the 1990s post-rock scene and the often clear links back to Krautrock of all stripes, Ash Ra Tempel's monster debut album stands as being both astonishingly prescient and just flat out good, a logical extension of the space-jam-freakout ethos into rarified realms.
If more progressive music was like it, there wouldn't be as many continuing complaints about that genre as a whole.

Manuel Göttsching also started a solo career parallel to the band in 1974 with one of the pioneer loop albums called "Inventions for Guitar", and he has also worked with COSMIC JOKERS and Walter Wegmüller.
In 1971 Schulze left the band to pursue a solo career and the band remained in the future as guitarist Manuel Göttsching's project, gaining a number of different eventual guests including Brian Barritt, Rosi Muller, Dieter Dirks, Harald Grosskopf, and LSD supporter Dr. Timothy Leary on vocals.
Ash Ra Tempel picked the 60's psychodelic culture and drove it into the 70's Space Rock and electronic music, and pioneered the Experimental German scene.
