Arch Enemy: Dead Eyes See No Future - PopMatters Music Review
Along with Shadows Fall and Lacuna Coil, Arch Enemy are one of the most popular bands on Century Media's deep roster of talent, and at the rate the band is going, and considering the remarkable resurgence of traditional heavy metal this year, the time for a real commercial breakthrough is nigh.
Some listeners might think the performances are too perfect, as the exactitude of the band's musicianship leaves no room for improvisation, but Arch Enemy's music is a dish best served cold, taut, and with a razor-sharp focus.
When the band dissolved later that decade, the guitarist moved on, forming Arch Enemy with his brother Christopher, also a guitarist, and over the course of five very well-received albums, Amott has found his second wind.

Blistering.com Review: Arch Enemy - Doomsday Machine
Somewhere deep inside Arch Enemy’s vast collection of songs, there’s the possibility of the band producing a real classic, but the trouble is they just haven’t figured out their strengths from their weaknesses in song terms.
The final two tracks, ‘Machtkampf’ (Translated as power struggle) and ‘Slaves Of Yesterday’ are both solid Arch Enemy numbers, and better examples of when the song writing manages to meet eye to eye with the talent the band actually has.
Many will argue that Gossow is to blame for Arch Enemy’s drop in quality (And there’s some merit there in regards to the lyrical content), but Amott too must also take his share of criticism (What’s with the rather dull, slow and unexciting music that makes up half of Doomsday Machine?).

In the minds of some, Swedish melodic death metal act Arch Enemy’s replacement of Johan ‘Liiva’ Axelsson (After three highly regarded studio albums and a live album) with German vocalist Angela Nathalie Gossow in 2001 was certainly an unexpected change, and one that meant that the band would never be quite the same.

THE METAL OBSERVER - Review - ARCH ENEMY - Black Earth
Little surprises throughout the album prove that ARCH ENEMY won't settle for an album like the above mentioned uninspired band, plus they give you time to recuperate from the savage beating that is "Black Earth".
Bottom line: this band is bursting at the seams with talent and songwriting ability, and it shows on every song on "Black Earth".
Most people know Arch Enemy for their melodic masterpiece "Burning Bridges" and while "Black Earth" is quite melodic, I'd say it focuses more on heaviness and crushing the listener with brutal riffing and speed.
