The Black Album (The Damned) - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The Black Album was the fourth album by The Damned.
It was released in the US with the exact markings of The Beatles White Album but reversed in black with The Damned in the lettering space where The Beatles was on The White Album.
First released as a double album with side 4 containing 6 live tracks recorded at Shepperton.

The Damned - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The Damned were one of the original British punk rock bands.
The Damned's first single "New Rose" remains a classic of early punk rock, described by one critic as "deathless anthem of nuclear-strength romantic angst untroubled by bad vibes." [1] It is a cheaply-recorded, but catchy and well-crafted pop song, 'punk' mostly in its volume and breakneck delivery.
The album, however, provided several more minor hits and a crucial extra dash of credibility: like the single, it was the first album released by a British punk band.

 THE DAMNED BIOGRAPHY
The album was the first UK punk album to be relased and it peked at number 36 in the charts for ten weeks.
The new album ' New Worlds Symphony' was eagerly awaited and another taster to the album was issued as the follow-up single, 'I just can't be happy today', with the Motordamn version of ' Ballroom Blitz' on the B-side and 'The Turkey song'.
The album contained ten original songs and a cover of ' Fish', originally a London SS song written by Tony James and Bryan, and a cover of the Stooges' 'I feel alright'.

 TrouserPress.com :: Damned
Noted for being the very first British punk band to issue an album (Stiff Records' first LP) as well as the first to tour America, the Damned hold a special position in history, if not always in music.
Damned Damned Damned was a major groundbreaker, a stripped-down punk album of high-speed songs filled with raunchy guitar rock and equally aggressive sentiments.
is yet another live album, capturing the original band running through some of the first album onstage at London's Roundhouse in late 1977.

 Damned Strawberries
I Love this album, Generals, Ignite, Gun Fury, The Pleasure and the Pain, solid Damned songs.
After the experimental "Black Album", The Damned Move into pop rock territory with Strawberries.
This album really showed what a great guitarist Captain Sensible is. Listen to the guitar work on Ignite or the solo on Under The Floor Again, breathtaking.

DAMNED was the first of many English punk albums.
As has been well documented, Damned Damned Damned followed the band's trailblazing as the first 70s British punk band to release a single, with this, the first 70s British punk album.
The album was produced by Nick Lowe, He captured the band's sound using a four track mixer and released the first English punk rock single NEW ROSE and a promo video as well.

The Damned: album reviews and ratings
This album holds a wide variety of songs that covers the different musical styles that The Damned experienced in their career.
Overall this is a solid and diverse Damned album that would please many different audiences, but I'm sure that The Damned are capable of putting together an effort that would be appreciated a lot more by the Darkwave audience if they would readopt more fully their mid 80's style.
Patricia Morrison (ex Gun Club and Sisters of Mercy) joined the band on this album, but her presence is hardly felt as the bass lines simply merged into the overall Damned scheme.

 Amazon.co.uk: Music: Grave Disorder
This album follows seamlessly in the foot steps of the classic "black album" and "Strawberries", yet with a new modern style without abandoning the shear energy which is The Damned.
Having listening to the Damned ever since their first single (New Rose 1976) I was surprised last year when this album was released.
I need to listen to the album again.

Easily my favourite album of all time, shame the live tracks don't appear to have made it to the cd, buy this and live shepperton 1980 and enjoy.
They have some incredible work on this album.
Quite why the damned aren't as popular as some of their peers is beyond me.

THE DAMNED IN GRAVE DISORDER (Guitar News Weekly #157, August 28, 2001 - (c) GuitarSite.com)
The Damned was the first British punk band to release an album, as well as the first to cross the Atlantic and tour the United States.
The Damned is all of that, but also a band that continues to evolve - still drawing its old fans while courting the new; pounding out punk rock standards, but writing music for the new century.
Albums to take note of: Machine Gun Etiquette ('78), The Black Album ('80), and Strawberries ('82).

 THE DAMNED
I actually like this album, or most of it anyway, but the band and a lot of fans don't.
Most of the above albums have been reissued several times and are available on CD and MC too.
The Damned were an original band of individuals for years and years, then the Captain left and someone decided that they would sell more records if they were all Dave Vanians and played goff.

 The Damned - Nitro Records!
The new CD has been compared to The Damned’s best, including Machine Gun Etiquette and the Black Album, but that’s pale praise.
Yes, The Damned were the first to publish a punk rock single, the first punk band to tour the States and influencers of countless other bands.
Ever fluid, The Damned swiveled into the new century with their trademark dark vocals, poppy melodies and scintillating sounds intact.

Punknews.org The Damned - Grave Disorder
From the speedy, catchy punk of "Damned Damned Damned" to the amazing masterpeice "Machine Gun Ettequette" and on to more gothic albums like "The Black Album", The Damned has always stayed fresh, original and always a blast to listen to and see live.
So, after a prolonged hiatus from acutally recording (1985 till 2001), The Damned released "Grave Disorder" in 2001, which seemed to be a double whammy of older bands releasing new albums for Nitro (T.S.O.L.'s first album in 20 years was released at almost the exact same time).
Unlike most "new" albums from older bands on long hiatus, this album really feels as passionate (if not more so) than their earlier efforts, a real album and one of their best in fact.

 The Damned
the black album was the first damned album i got.
For example, the album is bookended by two overblown fake-horn-type shiny INXS nonsense crap pop songs that have no place in The Damned's canon of fine material.
This album is one punk gem after another and displays a consistency that their previous two attempts lacked.

The Damned: Grave Disorder - PopMatters Music Review
It's being hailed as the best Damned album since Machine Gun Etiquette and the Black Album.
They just did their thing, released their albums, and kept up a formidable fan base with their goth-punk-rock tunes.
The Damned themselves are being touted as being at their creative peak with this release.

This expanded version recorded their second album Music For Pleasure, which was produced by Pink Floyd's Nick Mason and featured an appearance by free jazzer Lol Coxhill.

The History of Rock Music - The Eighties
Their Damned Damned Damned (1977) was the quintessence of British punk-rock, even though with Black Album (1980) they converted to melodic hard-rock.
The Slits were the first female punk band, a predecessor of the riot-grrrrls, and Slits (1980) was one of the first feminist albums since Joy Of Cooking.
A-Z (1980), the first solo album by Wire's keyboardist Colin Newman (10), expanded on those ideas with an apocalyptic cycle of menacing dirges, and achieved a demented intensity that was the musical equivalent of expressionism.

It's widely asserted that the Damned were the first UK punk band to record, beating both the Clash and the Pistols to the punch.
For as big an impact as their work had on the punk movement, they always stood somewhat outside the scene.

THE BLACK ALBUM was the first Damned LP to have a US release and they toured in the US in support of it, primarily in the big cities, where the punk movement this side of the Atlantic was in full swing.
Paul Grey soon replaced "Algy" on bass and The Damned once again toured the US and found their first American-released LP, THE BLACK ALBUM, on IRS.

Hellride Music - Exodus - Tempo of the Damned
Originally written with original vocalist Paul Baloff (who died before the album could be recorded) and completed with second vocalist Steve “Zetro” Souza, Tempo of the Damned is the result of a band taking stock of their strengths and focusing on them, discarding anything that might slow them down.
EXODUS' first studio album since 1992's "Force of Habit", "Tempo of the Damned" is due out in Europe on February 2 (the two-year anniversary of late EXODUS frontman Paul Baloff's passing) and in the U.S. on March 9 through Nuclear Blast Records.
And their career was pretty much laid to waste when they released Force of Habit, an album that saw them, along with pretty much all the other thrash greats of that time, desperately trying to follow the path Metallica made with their black album.
